Hello!
I am a Lebanese Skier hopping to ski in Bulgaria in February or March,I am still not decided what to choose between Bansko and Borovets.
Is it true that Bansko is bigger but has a real problem of Gondola waiting line every morning?
I have good very skill in ski,I can ski on very difficult slopes but I enjoy more long intermediate to expert slopes
Bansko problem ?? Either get there early or relax and chill in the que , because once your up on the slopes not much delays on other chair lifts. With regard to Borovets conditions not that good at moment but should improve as the season goes on, with regard to long intermediate/expert runs depending on you skill top of the Gondola to the bottom is a good heart thumper.
The queuing issue in Bansko is only a real problem at Christmas/New Year and the February half term holiday.. All other times are not that bad.. Personally i would look at early March, longer days with a chance of more sun, snow should not be an issue, and the slopes will be less busy.. With regards to slopes, both Bansko and Borovets offer decent reds, with Bansko really only offering a couple of decent blacks.. The 'fon fon' in Borovets is fun but could barely be classed as a black, the Rila black is definitely a test (i love it personally) but relies on good snow conditions... Borovets does allow for one thing, better access to the mountain, and more ski atmosphere, the bars dotted around at the base of the Rila ski area are great, and at the end of the day busy with skiers/boarders excited from their days fun. It could also be noted that Borovets conditions allowing will let you experience off-piste in relative safety on the top of the mountain, Bansko's off-piste being a little more challenging and the real chance of getting lost
Which ever resort you choose you will have fun, and with the predicted snow, maybe a classic mid/late season holiday
Thanks!
I noticed that Bansko has much more hotels than Borovets,it will be difficult to book a 350$ per week to Boro in February though at Bansko there are still lot of beds available
Nice to see that both ski domains will get 50cm in these 6 days, hopefully by the end of February it will have more than 1 meter of snow on all slopes.
Here in Lebanon it's first time for 150 years that we have so dry and relative hot weather, like now last year we had snow right above 300m altitude but ...

So yes by the end of next week I will have to decide if I come to Boro/Bansko or not.
How is it for a single skier after ski?
Any good place to meet people, specially girls ?
I am half French,is there usually French people coming to ski in Bulgaria?
I'm not sure I have ever seen or heard a French person in Bansko... you know what the French are like about Skiiing - they thihnk they invented it
In Bansko, lively places are: HAppy End (run by the mountain operator therefore more expensive); Euphoria; Lion Pub and Queens pub (although Queens is massive so needs to be really busy to get the atmosphere...). Penguins and Amigo can also be good too....
We get a small number of French skiers, generally better skiers who like the backcountry, and the lack of regulations here There will be plenty of tourists here including single girls, the local girls are generally a bit more difficult to get to know... unless you have a lot of money, and then i'm sure you will find a 'friend'.... Two nightclubs that do get busy after 10.00pm, Oxygen opposite the skating rink, and Jacks place opposite the log house restaurant... Basically just chill, ...

Two nightclubs that do get busy after 10.00pm, Oxygen opposite the skating rink, and Jacks place opposite the log house restaurant... Basically just chill, find your feet, and explore, normally everyone is pretty friendly, and as you are skiing, you will have something in common with most... well, apart from the boarders, but they will be tucked up in bed after a hard day of sitting in the middle of the piste (just joking........ honestly )
Steve C or me can sort you an apartment in Bansko. Contact us at earlybirdtransfers@skidvd.co.uk and let us know what you looking for ......... we live here.
I met french boarders before in bansko - and there is a french couple that live in bansko and run le retro - cafe in town
Just watch out for the half term week, which is likely to casue queues -
that is 15-22 feb. And note thta you only use the gondola once per day, and if you get there early you can walk straight on there are never really any queues once you are up on the mountain
Thanks!
I have some practical questions about Bansko:
-How much will cost me a 7 days ski pass? Does it include night skiing?
-At what time they close the slopes?
-How much will cost me a prepaid mobile line and will I found one at the Sofia airport?
-How much cost the taxi or bus from airport to Bansko?
-Again about ski pass, can I prepay it for several days at a different place than at the slopes cashier? (hotel, tourist center...)
-I have found huge difference in prices between ...

-I have found huge difference in prices between booking.com and the hotel's website ''official'' price like going from 30 (booking.com) to 40 (official price) euros per night, and that will induce a difference of 100$ for a 7 nights total!!!
Lift pass prices http://banskoski.com/en/prices/ do the maths
Last lift is 16.30, but it is possible to ski down later than this (in the dark ?)
SIM cards are available from most mobile shops in Bansko, from 10lv
Taxi from Sofia - 100E..., national bus - 18lv (but expect to spend 5 hours getting here, and you will need to get to bus station in Sofia, and from bus stop in Bansko)... Private bus transfer - 75E approx, shared ...

All lift passes unless tour operators pre-booked will be from lift station cashier at gondola...
Vast differences in price due to discounting to booking sites, official hotel website will always be the most expensive, but you can ask to discount official price
