Hi Guys, just after an opinion on what to expect from Bansko?
Ive been to Borovets twice now, but Feb 26th sees my first visit to Bansko, what are the main differences between the two?
Bansko.. better lift system, better pistes, better snow, cheaper prices... more people so busier, town more spread out, less bar action so quieter... Feb 26th should see the madness of halfterm over... Bansko is a proper town unlike Boro that is purpose built, the main disadvantage skiing wise is having to use a gondola to access the skiing.. but you can ski back down 7km to the town, on a very wide ski road, unlike the Mussala pathway (though i love the pathway)
Don't get me wrong, i like Boro as well, especially the Fon Fon, under the Sitnyakovo chair on the red, blasting the Yastrabets.. and the pathway dropping onto the Rila black to the base of the chair... but the black 9 (tomba) from the top through the unpisted section under the chair, the blacks at Challin Valog, long red 6, off-piste to the side of Todorka, the trees at the side of blue 10, the champayne bowl... just about top it for Bansko.. and fast chairs, good linking and the madness of ...

Two years ago I came home from Banff, had a week and went to bansko. There was little snow unfortunately, but we found ourselves in a sparse town, facing a gondola (and the required queue of a morning) every morning and playing second fiddle to the world cup - i.e all the cannons and slope prep went on the run. Not to mention the 3 hour transfer. Needless to say we didnt think much of it.

Two weeks ago I landed from Canada, had 4 days and then flew to borovets. We found ourselves with an hours transfer, everything on our doorstep, a choice of easy boarding or gondola and a really friendly experience.
The point being, both are good. The snow is a big factor but from what I saw I wouldnt think Bansko had ebough to tempt me away from the easiness of Borovets. I am a snowboarder and I loved the Musala Pathway, others would hate it I guess. I go to Bulgaria for a snowboarding trip with my mates where we want some boarding, some beers and a good laugh. In my experience Bansko didnt deliver that, but it was still a very good place to go!
