I first visited Borevets in Bulgaria in1988 and fell in love with Bulgaria-have lots of Bulgarian friends many whom have stayed with us in England-the Bulgarian sense of humour and hospitality is fantastic-I visit your sight regularly to get a fix of the Bulgarian 'fan club'-I also ski elsewhere as I want to have variety and love France for sking-but there is nowhere that gives me the buzz that I feel approaching Samakov where the ski slopes become apparent. I am bringing my granddaughter in Febuary to stay with one of my Bulgarian friends (a one time ski instructor) who now has a daughter the same age as grandaughter. The two girls met 2 years ago on a visit to Borevets and despite limited language got on like a house on fire-I have great memories of this 9 year old returning from an afternoon sking with Sasho and daughter on a complete high screaming 'Granny , I have just skied the fonfon-very fast'-she also 'got' the Bulgarian magic and is really looking forward to meeting all of our Bulgarian friends again. Well Granny may not be sking the fon fon very fast as I hit the big 70 in January but I will be up and down Yasrabets etc like ferrett up a drainpipe.Keep the banter going ,keep it clean, funny and informative.I for one am enjoying the site regularly and hope to meet kas and bobby this year. I do get my fix of a Bulgarian accent by visiting the famous Marko (ski and boot fitter at Filirinskis)

Bulgaria generally is attracting more winter tourists, visitor numbers increasing year on year, this is not happening in the Alps. Yes, there has been a drop in UK visitors, but this is mirrored in an overall drop in holidaying Brits anyway...
Investment in infrastructure proportionally is higher here than in other Alpine areas, ok, the investment maybe is not massive, but then the area is not massive either... 12 million E investment in a year against an initial ...
Ok, consider this...

The country of Bulgaria maintains about the lowest national deficit against GDP in the EU, the country last year wiping out nearly half of its debt. This is helping to maintain prices without spiraling inflation so effectively allowing the `good value' (hate cheap !) to continue...
A lot of interest shown now from countries who normally would never consider Bulgaria, West Germany (o yes, there still is a West) a country who would never consider Bulgaria because it was the holiday destination of the East German, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, Scandinavians who again would never think of an ex communist country, and the `French', my favourites when the French start looking elsewhere other than France to ski, there is a real problem in France...
Do you see what im getting at ?? Bulgaria is on the up, our country of choice, be it not perfect by any means, is still offering opportunities to visitors to come and take advantage of super value food and drink and accommodation, stunning surroundings, amiable people (ok, not all hehehe) and a feeling of yourself belonging, not just your money...
This forum always extolled the advantages, those of us with experience passing on information that hopefully would help new people to make informed decisions. I stand with Pete with what he has said, and i still feel the board has something to offer.. I never really felt the board ever had an edge, it was what it was, a group of like minded people coming together, to mix stories, give each other stick, and have some fun... I don't think anyone really took it that serious... and hopefully never will
lol at nudger, just made everyone look up in the office as i may have laughed out loud!!!
Been on this site for far too many years, and love BG, it seems that things are sorting themselves out, and Boro is finally entering the 21st century with resort improvements, nice to have runs with snow on!!
One thing that does worry me, redevelopment is great, but have always loved the village charm feel of boro which seems to be slipping away into a concrete jungle, PLEASE dont become another ...

If I may say this. I've been going to Borovets for ten years now since starting my skiing in Andorra. I 1st tried to use this site, not the forum, at about the same time. Unfortunately when I wrote to the site, they didn't bother to respond. not a good advert and not a service to win my custom. I downloaded some 10% discount vouchers and left. I eventually found another site and they were friendly and I happened upon their forum which I have used many times since. In using that forum I ...
In using that forum I detected some 'bad feelings' between some people there and here. This is however my skiing holiday and I don't want it spoilt by political issues that I am not involved in and I have no view on the subject as i'm only an observer and actually met people from both sites. That said over a period of time, I noticed that in my opinion, the other forum had become a bit tired and quiet. That is just my opinion and I still use it but I thought i'd give the forum here a go. I like it here and don't feel that there is a clique thing going on. Banter is one thing but it could be become cliquey and that could damage the forum. I've seen it happen before. Anyway, this forum is busy and in the main quite fun and i'm enjoying my time here so don't change it too much or give it too much of an edge as some people are more sensitive (not i) than others
Fras, Boro will become more developed, the indications for the pulling down of temporary builds seem to be in place, but there does not seem to be a solid plan on what will be built in their place... Ah well, i suppose like everything else in Bulgaria, we will find out in time
Have to agree with Kas and Bobby - Its only November peeps the banter is just about to start!!!!
I have just stepped back in for the season - coming in too early just depresses me cause i have to wait to get back on the slopes. I will promise to be posting big on the run up to the xmas visit and then throughout the season as me and the missus trip out to our home in the mountains.
This is the only forum i have come back to for 6 years running and thats down to the people ...
