Broken Phone

Hi guys,

Strange question this but here goes......

I have recently bought myself a fancy new phone (HTC Desire). I want to take it with me for photos and internet etc but as I am going snowboarding for the first time and expect to on my arse a lot, do you think it is wise?
I am staying at the Samakov and have been told by a few people that things go missing there so am dubious about leaving it in the room also!

Advice needed.

Regards,

Benn

re: Broken Phone

Hi Benn,

I would suggest you take it, you would regret it otherwise!! Im taking my phone but it is slightly less fancy than the HTC Desire...but I need it for my business emails! (yes, even though i am on holiday....sad I know).

I would suggest seeing if it is possible to purchase a 'hard case' for it before you go that still enables you to use all the functions....it is touch screen if i remember correctly?

It may be worth checking your contents insurance or bank insurance as some ...

It may be worth checking your contents insurance or bank insurance as some providers offer cover on phones for no extra cost with minimal outlay excess (mines £20).

Personally, I wont be leaving my phone unattended so nobody would have the oppotunity to swipe it, and if they do, then theres passwords on it etc...but its the hassle of not having the phone!

Think about snowboarding (I'm a skier)...put it in an internal pocket that your not likely to fall on. I always put mine in my jacket on one of the inside pockets....stops it falling out by accident of trouser zips coming undone & also the risk of it been pick-pocketed. Aswell as when i fall, i tend to fall on a side as a supposed to my front/back.

Hope this has kind of helped...sorry for the spluge!!

Rob

re: Broken Phone

Benn,

Have you thought of looking at a 'Hard Shell' camera case and seeing if it would fit in that?

Im taking a dedicated camera 'cos the one on my blackberry is pants....I bought a hard case of ebay for like 5quid. and its perfect....doesnt compress at all, but yet softish to the touch.

try your local market for a case?

re: Broken Phone

I will check it out mate!

However, I have just checked the roaming charges with my mobile company and they are silly money!! £5 per MB - WOW!! Think I will be using an internet cafe instead mate. I would still like to use the camera and stuff so...

Anyway thanks for your time Rob, hope you have a great time.

Best,

Benn

Got back from Boro on Saturday and took my HTC Desire with me. Samokov hotel have free wi-fi in their public areas and also used it in Mamacitas, just ask the bar staff for a code. As previously said, put it in an inside jacket pocket, thats all i did and it was ok even after a couple of falls, althought not too spectacular as i'm a skier.
Have a great time and save some snow for our next visit on the 12th Feb

re: Broken Phone

Double edged sword this one ... smart phones are brilliant on the mountain, for music, photos, videos and if your phone can handle it, a sports tracker. You can use the gps to get a map of your route (which you can overlay onto google maps) and it'll tell you lots of stuff about distance travelled, height dropped, and the best bit ... your top speed.

On the other hand, I smashed my screen last year ... and it was in a case, wrapped in a scarf and in my backpack.

Get it insured, and ...
