Bulgaria v's Andorra

Been to Bulgaria for 4 years now and would like to try somewhere else for skiing next year. Anyone been to Andorra and could give some advice. Bulgaria alot more expensive this year, now that prices are quite high to eat and drink how do they compare to Andorra?? Thanx.

Hated it. Tried it once and never again.

Poor instructor, boring slopes and very little to do in the evenings.

Only my opinion of course Wink

Thanx Pete, have skied in Borovets and Pamporovo, fancy a change next year. Although the people are great did feel a bit ripped off at times. Shame the high prices we are paying for things goes to the wrong people!! 10 lev for a snickers bar at the top of the mountain, thats beyond a joke.. What about Bansko!!

Bansko is fantastic for slopes, the best in Bulgaria by a mile. I wasn't taken by the place due to the high level of construction that was underway and it blighted the charm of the place.

Nightlife is good if you know where to find it and a million times better than Andorra.

Many go to Bansko year after year and love it. It wasn't for me, but I can see why many are drawn to the place even if it's only for the quality of skiing.

re: Bulgaria v's Andorra

the skiing is really good in bansko, the prices when I was there two years ago were quiet cheap, going again in two and half weeks will see how much they have gone up, on saying that two years ago my shopping bill here was hell of a lot chaeper than it is now.

will let you know prices on return. have never been to andora, but have also never heard a good coment, noone I know though has been since they have linked up the ski areas.

re: Bulgaria v's Andorra

Liked the idea of being able to walk everywhere in Borovets from the hotel. Is it like this in Bansko or do you need to catch a bus to the gondola?? Stayed in the Iglika Palace this year, food good by other hotel standards and drinks reasonable. Any advice about good hotels in Bansko?

Also the runs gets tracked out early in pas de casa, the whole area is vast and you will be kept busy all week.

the prices were not us cheap as i was led to belive, they say thats its tax free...yeah whatever Confused it was not to expensive but not cheap either. Its worth a visit even if its just to say you have been to another country!

Not been to bulgaria yet so cannot compare.I would go back to andorra so i suppose that speaks for itself really Razz Razz

It is past it sell by date

I have just purchased 2 places in Bansko and have been out 4 times already this year
Food is 100% better than Andorra

I went to Bulgaria in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 and tried Andorra in 2007... OMG - I went to Arinsal and it was awful. OK, so there was no snow, but you had that throughout Europe.

What didn't I like about Andorra - the prices, egg and chips was about 8 Euros - that was without a drink. The only way you can get to the ski area of Arinsal is by gondola and if it's too windy it doesn't run. We had that. If you are going to ski school it's in the morning or afternoon only.

Transfers - over 3 hours in each direction - and yes, people threw up on the bus in both directions the journey was so long and twisty on the mountain roads.

Skiing - everyone crowding around in one little nursery area - not three separate slopes like in Borovets - oh, and ski storage - you've got to pay for a ski locker for another 30 or so Euros for the week - and then make sure you know which are your skis and boots or someone might take yours by accident.

Apres Ski - I like to go for a massage after skiing - in Borovets in 2006 I was paying 27 Lev for one hour - in Andorra, 55 Euro!!! We tended to go to the bar with our instructor for peach schnapps but I didn't really join in that much.

The hotel - in Borovets, I usually stay at the Iglika, I stayed at the Sol in Andorra - the pool was freezing cold with a layer of scum, the food was freezing cold and if you were vegetarian you had a choice of chips, chips or chips. It was a cold continental breakfast - croissants with ham or cheese and no-one would dare touch the boiled eggs they looked like they'd sat there all week.

I don't normally get ill when I ski, but I got home from Andorra having not eaten, not slept as the beds were so uncomfortable and hardly skiied as it was only morning lessons. I came home and within 36 hours was so ill that I ended up on 2 lots of antibiotics and steroids for a really bad chest infection - had to take two weeks off work it was so rough.

So would I go back to Andorra - not likely. I did book for Bansko in 2008 but have had to cancel due to knee surgery last year. Having said that, I've already booked to go back to Borovets in 2009
