Hi we have been to bansko and Borovets and thoroughly enjoyed them although thought Borovets was getting a bit pricey last year to eat out and drink. the lift queues wer huge and we went low season outside of school holidays.

This year we went to Club le Totem with our kids in Flaine (France) and what can I say wow! The slopes and gondola are there as you step out the hotel. The kids ski school is right outside the hotel. There were next to no queues all week most we had was about 5 people in front of us. Yes it is more expensive to eat and drink but we tended to order a packed lunch from the hotel and then just get a coffee or a beer at lunchtime to go with it. We went half board for about £450 each so didn't have to pay for much food. Depends how you want to eat but we happy to do that. The pistes were amazing and we did not ski the same run more than once. The plus side for us were no traffic didn't see a car all week because it pedestianized and no queues. Will def retun next year although I do love the Bansko charm but again the 3 - 4 hour transfer is a hell of a long time with kids so maybe if it is just the two of us. Hope that helps!

you gotta try Pamporovo Dawn. I havent tried Borovets and Bansko yet but have spoke to plenty that have ,and the overall opinion is that Pamps is far superior althought skiing is better in Bansko.
You talk about taking packed lunch to the slopes in France ,ok, but its nice to go skiing in Pamps and lunch in the restaurants for a fraction of the prices in France.

We have a snowboard park near the village of Momchilovtsi where our house is 6km from Pamps .It only has 2 drag lifts ,one bar/restaurant and a ski hut but it is great for families . You can have the whole slope to yourselves practically sometimes.Boots and ski hire £7 ,skidoo £10 half hour and we ate there .12 of us , had 10 coffees,6 beers,a couple of rums, 12 soups, bread rolls,a couple of burgers and some chips and it came to about £15. Deff recommend it for a great family day out ,cheap too.

Nigel
advertisement-why? Are you desperate? Keep posting all the time with Momchilovci and a constant hope.
Better do skiing in Xscape than drag it on the mini-patch in Momchilovci.
Only good for non skiers/snowboarders and mega basic too.

I happily ski the Bulgarian resorts because I live here but would never come here again if I moved away. Compared to what is available in Europe from the UK and factoring in the flight and transfer times versus the difference in quality, its a no-brainer. Unless you're a chain smoking alcoholic, in which case you'll probably be financially better off coming here.

Well now back
Had a brilliant week with good snow
Well out of season so although lower runs shut could ski non stop in different directions every day ( well my daughter and friends could i ended up resting a sprained knee - bottled it on an un pisted red! Mind you it had snowed all night)
Pleasantly surprised at prices - would have been expensive to eat out all week but with an intermarche really close and a well equipped appartment (tele, DVD settees etc ) eating in was actually no ...

Pleasantly surprised at prices - would have been expensive to eat out all week but with an intermarche really close and a well equipped appartment (tele, DVD settees etc ) eating in was actually no problem. Sat sipping my Vin Chaud (3E) - not much more than in Boro this year.
It helped going with people who knew their way around
I would def reccommend Bulgaria for beginners but think that if you enjoy skiing then variety is the spice of life - try it all!

re: Bulgaria v France

We found during our last trip to Borovets that the people were ruder than before, Borosport in particular, compared to France this year where all the lift attendants said hello and goodbye and were generally better mannered
