Have learned and skiied in Bulgaria for last 2 years but now off for a last minute ski to France
any hints or tips for things that will be different much appreciated like gradings of runs, how runs are signposted etc
Levs or Euro - know that one!
Hope meet goes well - trying to persuade other half to do our summer hol in BG, somewhere quiet and chilled with nice beach - any ideas?
you could post on www.beachbulgaria.com - the 'warm site'. They will have lots of advice on summer resorts but I would have thought avoid Sunny Beach and Golden Sands.
I found in France they grade the runs differently. I remember a red run in France that was very steep - I was learning at the time which may have altered my perception but it looked like a sheer drop to me!!
For a summer break St Vlas is nice - just around the bay from Sunny Beach with a lovely new beach, more of a village feel and no noisy discos!
Yep, be very aware of the piste grades, compared to Bulgaria you may find blue and red much steeper but you will soon get to know the slopes, your instructor won't take you down too steep a run, have a blast
I found the grading in valmeinier in france slightly strange compared to borovets. The grading varied quite a bit. Some blues were like greens, other like reds, yet the reds seemed to be either correctly graded or slightly easy. Blacks also varied from a borovets black, to a suicide run, narrow with big moguls. The signposting on the runs were excellent though. You will thoroughly enjoy the alps though, it takes skiing onto the next level.
Different countries tend to vary in terms of grading slopes. The best advice I have ever been given is to start on green and work your way up till you find what your comfortable with. (I think that advice was from the ski club of Great Britain website.)
