Just been reading the post on fake gear. I was thinking of buying ski boots in Borovets, anyone any idea if they are genuine/fake, and how much would I expect to pay for a decent pair??
How do we know the ones here arent fake? If you like something, it fits etc then buy it.
I have bought coats and boots for me and my wife in Bulgaria, and have not had a single problem.
How would you feel if Bulgarians were discussing our honesty on a site partly designed to promote the country.
One minute everybodys singing the countries praises then on the other hand telling you not to trust them.
Eh how do we know the ones here are not fake??? well you buy them from a proper shop John!!! Dont think anyone said dont trust them either just a case of a lot of gear is fake. What would you have us say John? No go ahead that cheap stuff you see is all ok?????
John,
not a question of trusting them, its a question of whats best, either buy here or buy there, in my opinion deb you must buy here, i have posted this response to this same question over and over again , go to a good ski shop bite the bullet and buy your boots here before you go .
When you buy boots the seller should discuss your skiing abillity and measure your feet, size of your instep etc, when i got mine i spent 2 hours discussing/ measuring and trying boots untill i was happy with ...

Whilst i have every respect for the Bulgarians i really dont think they would take so much care over your feet and your skiing.
I have been very happy with my boots and ive skied twice a year for the last 3 years now with no sore feet or anyother problems but its your feet and your money so you dont have to take my advice.

Ski boots i would buy here to be honest. Better and new ranges, plus you got some comeback if there is any trouble. In general i would imagine there is a lot of fake stuff in bulgaria. That is because it is a poor country. You get the same stuff in all poor countrys. Don't think saying its fake is insulting towards them or implying they are dishonest. Fake goods are a personal choice, some people feel it is wrong to buy them, some people have no problem. Totally down to the individuals ...

Right Deb,
After all that positive response where to get them from if you are going to Boro. The ski shop by the White Majic opposite the Samakov gives excellent value also down by the Gondola on the right hand side. I would avise you to get them from a ski shop and not from a clothes/boutique shop. Price wise you will know the right boot when you see it and cost will not count. Being as you are a female they do come in pink!
Bought Lange boots in Pamporovo 5 years ago. Top of the range, £80 and fit like slippers. Same boots in Snow & Rock £220. The gear is MUCH cheaper in 90% of Bulgarian outlets and the quality is just as good.
