Iv been a couple of times and have been planning to buy this year as opposed to rent. IM gonna buy some boots out here before i go mainly so i know i have got some that fit right etc but im not sure about the board/bindings. A few of my friends have bought boards out there and been a fair bit cheaper but i wondered what the opinion f some other people was. Is it worth the saving? ...

And better still can anyone recomend a place to buy/look?

Cheers all (off out on the 26th Jan not that that really makes a difference)

re: Buying a board in Borovets?

Don't know if Borovets is any different to Bansko but I too purposefuly left my old board at home last Jan, took my boots thinking I would get a bargain in Bansko, I was very disappointed with choice and price, only unheard of cheapo or more expensive than here Burton, I ended up hiring a reasonable board although rather too long for the week very cheaply but not the same as riding your own board, came home and got a fantastic deal here on a Rome Anthem and 390 bindings, I was led to believe ...

I really would look around here at deals and offers. Wink

Joe,
no problem whatsoever to get good equipment in Borovets, like anywhere else it depends on how much you want to spend. At the begining of season new ski kit is always more expensive, but head out in March and the real bargains are to be had.
Anyway, pop down to Alex 2000 ski shop, opposite the Samokov Hotel, always the best deal in Borovets. Ask for Alex, tell him his brother Paul from the UK sent you and you might even get a better deal. Always remember, if you have an expensive board ...

Always remember, if you have an expensive board or skis that you took out from the UK and the weather and snow conditions aren't that good, buy some cheap gear then throw it away at the end of the week. Much better than ruining your good stuff.
Paul.

Paul, I can't believe you say if conditions are poor pick up cheopo board & bindings, there is no comparison to buying a quality board and growing with it, I haven't managed to trash a board in 20 years, no damage that a good workshop can't sort out and think of the hours spent on decent equipment, the hire equipment was better than most boards that were available for sale in the tatty shops around the gondola in Bansko and as I said Burton gear was way more expensive than UK.
I appreciate ...

I appreciate Borovets is a different kettle of ski/board shops to Bansko. Neutral

re: Buying a board in Borovets?

i agree with Joe, I thought the good stuff was the same price as over here. There was a shop selling cheaper stuff by the gondola in Borovets.

Cant wait to get over there!

Whatever you decide, go to someone reputable who have staff that know what they are talking about.
Nothing worse than hitting the slopes with a plank that won't respond all for saving a quid or two.
I ride a K2 zeppelin. Some of the snowzones do trial nights on different boards so you can try b4 you buy.
Good Luck and enjoy Booze

re: Buying a board in Borovets?

Hi,
I read the message about your brothers shop in borovets, and I was wondering if you could help? I have been borarding a while, and i love borovets. I am taking three newbies out this year, who are all looking for boards, boots and binding. They all want 'starter' boards and are looking for a bit of a bargain. Could you tell me roughly how much you think this would cost at your brothers store? ( 2 mens 157/160cm boards and 1 womens 150/152 board)
Thank you
Georgie
