Hi, could anyone tell me where in Borovets would be the best place to buy a snowboard and boots, also what would happen at the airport when we come home seeing as we havnt pain for carriage. Is it worth buying them over there, are the savings worth it and are they genuine or fake.
We are traveling with Inghams, flying with Monarch.
Definately dont buy boots in a resort , you need to have expert help , as if you get ill fitting boots , your riding will suffe and you will regret it , try get to a reputable firm in the uk ..ie TSA or Snow and ROCK orSubvert ETC..try many pairs on and go for what fits not what you like the look of or what colour matches your gear .... boots are the most important part of your kit
As to not buying equipment in a ski resort. Went to panorama canada last year and the ski shops there had every piece of equipment you could require from setting up your boots to matching your stance to your skis .
brian, theres nothing wrong with buying boards, skis etc from a ski resort if you know what you want and know what youre actually buying is decent gear and not just looks good..if something goes wrong at least if you buy at home you stand half a chance of getting it sorted out, and as folk have said...you will find some good deals here in the uk... go to one of the big retailers and try some boots, check out the boards etc then when you know what you want get hunting on the internet for the ...

and as for bringing the board back etc, youll just have to pay ski carriage...about £15, but might get stung for more if you dont organise it with inghams first
By buying in resort, you're getting to try the equipment on the hill almost immediately, just make sure that they'll take the time to adjust and re-adjust everything after you've bought it ... and to be honest, most of the good places will.
Do your research in the UK and online ... go to places and try on boots, get to know what feels right and what makes and models you're comfortable with, then you should be able to buy in resort no problem. I bought a new board in Boro in ...
Hi Brian,
By buying in resort, you're getting to try the equipment on the hill almost immediately, just make sure that they'll take the time to adjust and re-adjust everything after you've bought it ... and to be honest, most of the good places will.
Do your research in the UK and online ... go to places and try on boots, get to know what feels right and what makes and models you're comfortable with, then you should be able to buy in resort no problem. I bought a new board in Boro in 2006 and it's still in tip top shape, it's been looked after and has had a few services but it's got a good couple of seasons left in it ... and I'm not talking 1 week in Bg a year, I'm talking numerous visits to Xscape and days the Highlands too.
(FYI: The shop I bought it in was near the white magic, heading towards the fork in the road, opposite the Samokov ... sorry, can't remember the name, but it has a large astroturfed display area out front about 2 feet higher than the road ... very rare snowboard too, the graphics are of a Tie Fighter from Star Wars ... I love it!)
I wouldn't buy ski boots abroad unless I was getting an amazing deal (and maybe because I don't ski anymore) but I would buy boarding boots. As long as they're comfortable and hold you firmly in the right places, you'll be fine ... but as I said, do your research before you go.
Finally, I'll just say that although boots and boards are no problem, I have had a look for decent bindings more than once out in Boro and Bansko, and haven't found any yet!
Did the same for boards as well in canada. In fact two weeks ago when e freind bought his board in borovets one of the things they were very particular about was checking his stance before mounting his bindings on to the board and seemed to get it right as he had no problems during the week.He already had his own boots
