from holidays in sunny destinations the people like to barter with uk pounds rather than their home currency and if you ask for the price in their currency the price seems to be £1/£2 more exspensive, is it the same in bulgaria?

re: CURRENCY

The currency in Bulgaria is lev, so you should pay in lev. Of course, you can pay in euro or even in pound, but it will be too expensive because all the guys there will calculate very bad exchange rates for you and this is normal for a shop or for a bar.
Where to exchange? It depends, but it's better to do this in U.K, nobody knows what will happen in Bulgaria. this is the most secure way.

re: CURRENCY

I'd definitely say use lev, otherwise will definitely get taken advantage of! If you do want to change money in BG the co-op bank in Samokov does give reasonable rates but they are changing all the time... The rates prob won't be as good in Borovets because there are more tourists there. Hoep this helps!

re: CURRENCY

As a guide, the current rate of exchange for the £ Sterling in Bulgaria is 2.23 leva. Use this as a guide when considering which is best.

re: CURRENCY

I have just returned from Pamporovo and there is a bank there. I find the best sytem is to use the atms with a nationwide card as there are no charges for drawing in levs

Hi all
The current exchange rate can be seen on:
http://www.bnb.bg/bnb/rates.nsf/vWebRatesByMonthEN/$First
It's around 2.267370 now, which is much worse than last year.
