Forget the tour companies, go independently- you'll save a load of cash.

I agree with that, but then you do get the social element when you go with a tour company of tour groups/ski lessons etc.

I'd just book last minute if possible, save the most then!

Booked with fast track and ended up being a crystal hols. WIth fasttrack the base rate was the same (£159 plus 7x4 each for room extras) for Pampo. Gatwick to Plovdiv. Includes transfers. Then when we booked lift tickets and learn to board pack for my partner they charged £20 admin fee. If we had gone with Crystal directly on the internet (which we found out 5 minutes after we paid fasttrack) would have only been £331 for the two of us for flights, accom and transfers. The lift tickets and board package were the same price (but no admin fee.) The lift ticket is £68 as opposed to approx £100 in resort. The learn to board pack which includes rental, lift tickets and 3 x 2 hour lessons £104 which really is quite a good deal. All toghether it would have been £503 with Crystal over the internet but we ended up paying £646 with fast track. That said fast track had brilliant customer service and absolutely no complaints with them. That price includes flights, accom, transfers, hotel, half board, lift passes and one learn to board pack.
