Christmas 2010

Hi all,
I am new to posting on the site but have been an avid reader of the discussion board for a number of weeks, Since i booked for Boro for christmas 2010 flying on the 19/12 and returning on the 26/12.

We are a family of 4 myself and my wife have not skied for some 20years and our 21 year old identical twins (girls) have never skied, And as i am paying i am getting concerned about what people are saying, about the conditions and how they are and have been, now and in the past. ...

Wanting my kids (and us) to have the best experiance of both skiing and apre skiing.

My question is have we made the right choice in BG so early in the season or should we consider changing to another destination?

All your thoughts would be appreciated as this is a very expensive time to holiday and we would like to get the full experiance. We would all enjoy the beer but would like a bit of skiing aswell.

re: Christmas 2010

You want people to forecast 48 weeks away!!

We went to Boro a few years ago and the 1st and 2nd days were ok, then it went very icy end of the 2nd. 3rc day(xmas eve) was shocking in the morning, the it started snowing and it didn't stop until boxing day.

Its anyones guess

Christmas 2008 it bucketed down, we arrived on 20th December and there was loads of snow. This year (Christmas 09) we went on 23rd and there was very little snow. I don't think you can judge it by this year. The weather is very strange everywhere this year. Hopefully there will be lots again next Christmas.

re: Christmas 2010

The weather......strange surely not, Especially not in west cumbria (the Lake District if you don't). We have had no flash floods destroying towns and bridges and throwing us true northerners into complete chaos 1 week, And then T shirt weather the next week followed by snow and ice. The weather strange no it can't be.
Thanks Lorriane we will bear it mind.

(Sorry for sarcasm strange sense of humour)

re: Christmas 2010

john there is always a chance you will get plenty of snow but its a slimmer chance than other resorts across europe..if you are looking at bulgaria because of the price then id go later in the season, otherwise id be looking for a high altitude resort in the alps..

J.S. I haven't been to Boro at Xmas but have been for last 3 seasons in jan/feb and really enjoyed it. The people are very friendly & entertaining in the main. You cant beat skiing all day then sinking 4 or 5 well deserved pints in a cosy log cabin bar with an open fire - especially at happy hour(s) 5-7pm when its less than a quid a pint [across from the Flora hotel].

I learned to ski at Courcheval 1850 in France and had a great time but it was very expensive and whilst I don't consider myself a chav, I did find some of the clientel a bit pretentious.
I then went to 'snow sure' Saint Anton in Austria and it rained constantly for 3 days and melted all the snow in resort - still enjoyed it overall.
lst year, snow conditions were not very good low down in Boro but the rest were OK - none of the pistes are groomed as well as the mainstream resorts though.
It sounds like Borosport have reduced their staff in anticipation of reduced travellers in the current financial climate. This is perhaps why some areas are not operating ??
I have booked a week off (first week march) and am watching carefully to see how the conditions etc shape up. I may yet break with tradition and go back to France.
??????
Kas's reports are superb !
