We just lost our October holiday due to the XL fiasco. Because we booked separate flights and accommodation, we're looking at losing the money we paid for accommodation, although we've been told we should get the flight cost back inside 6 months!
Book direct with the owners - no expensive agents fees to pay or companies to go bust.. Pay with credit card or paypal and they will cover you if something does go wrong.
Package holidays = commission and profits for a 3rd party
Ive always booked pakages and couldnt beat the discount we were getting booking alone,
Although this year im out for a few months so booked a little dif.
As for should you book now, yeah get it booked the more people that do the less risk of things going wrong.
If everyone sits back and waits and no flights or hollidays get booked then people will def go bust.
Like you say book it on your credit card so you are covered.
We've booked Pamps for Feb half term through Thomson - couldn't beat this package, no matter where we looked. Our experience with XL hasn't put us off hols, but we'll be a lot more careful WHO we book with in the future.
ive always booked my summer holidays DIY stlye but for winter i always book with inghams and never paid more than £280 flying from manchester, and ive never had any problems. you cant get it cheaper than that doing it yourself.
eg Easyjet from Manchester to Sofia - 2-9th Mar just less than £55
Return private transfer for 4 - 170 euros (£1=1.22eur) £35 each
One bedroom apartment near gondola £250 - £63 each
Total - £153 each.... a mere 55% of the cost of your 'cheap' package!!!
That saves a £127 PER PERSON
dbut - how much was your package (including lift pass)?
My example is £183 including ski carriage (£30)
Looking at Inghams website today the cheapest I can get is £336 PER PERSON..... That is for an apartment (Antilia) close to town centre (i.e. miles from the gondola),
This price EXCLUDES fight supplement £27, ski carriage £15.
With an internet discount the total comes to a massive £351 (excluding lift passes...).
That is almost double the cost of my example....
Lift pass is ...

Lift pass is cheaper with your package 'deal' (£90) as opposed to £115 in the resort.
Personally I would rather pay £25 more for my lift pass but £168 less for the holiday PER PERSON!!
