Just wondered what peoples thoughts and views are on booking up their annual skiing holiday in advance.
What with the demise of XL Holidays the other day and reports of further companies and airlines going to the wall it makes me wonder whether it is safe to book up in advance and risk loosing everything ...
Ok .... using a credit card protects you to some degree but its the pain of having to possibly sort out alternatives at very short notice if something does go ...
Hi everyone ...
Just wondered what peoples thoughts and views are on booking up their annual skiing holiday in advance.
What with the demise of XL Holidays the other day and reports of further companies and airlines going to the wall it makes me wonder whether it is safe to book up in advance and risk loosing everything ...
Ok .... using a credit card protects you to some degree but its the pain of having to possibly sort out alternatives at very short notice if something does go horribly wrong especially if you have booked valuable time off work ..
Yes I have booked flights with Wizz Air, now they are bigger than most people realise and have just orderd some new planes..... but if the 3rd largest tour company in the Uk can go tits up then who knows????
As you said its the hassle of booking new flights and almost certainly paying a lot more than you already had.
Nasty thought for deffo, we too have booked flights with Wizzair for xmas and Easyjet for Feb. I think these two seem to be fairly solid, Easyjet anyway! Fingers crossed.
Instead of will it snow this year I think it's gonna be, "Will we get there"?
Book a package holiday...... and pay over-inflated prices, stuck with a Sat-Sat holiday with little or no flexibility, pay the full amount and the tour operator slaps a 'fuel' surcharge just before your departure that you must pay.
Alternatively organise your own trip, choose a decent airline, save money, have flexibility and stay as long as you want.
(oh and you won't have an annoying, spotty 'rep' in your face every night....)
I've done DIY and done package. Believe me, package holidays are the easiest option.
One booking does everything, if you do DIY you have to:
1) Make a booking for the flight
2) Make a booking for the hotel/apartment
3) Make a booking for the transfer
4) Arrange ski hire in one queue
5) Buy a lift pass in another queue
6) Go and join another queue for ski school
