Concerned

Coming out to Borovets on Saturday 25th. Not sure how accurate the forecasts are but they show temperatures rising dramatically.

Any of you guys have any further information?

Regards

re: Concerned

Real thaw in the day today, but below freezing again tonight...
With the amount of snow we have had i would not worry, it will take weeks for this lot to disappear, and likely the temps will fall again and it will snow... again Mad

re: Concerned

Why would you need to be concerned about that - it's the perfect scenario! There is already enough snow to last well into April and probably beyond. Have skied many a time in Bulgaria with just a t shirt on top and nothing could be better than brilliant snow with brilliant sunshine.

Stop worrying.

Correct
Snow will be plenty.
Problem would be if becoming too warm the danger of slush and heavy snow base in which breakings are very common.
If the melting starts and fast now the first to suffer would be Bansko: from Bunderitsa down and the town will get very wet.
Quite often in late season there is Rain in the town, everything is bleak downtown and you have to escape with the gondola up with the hope of the rain becoming snow.

Quite often in late season there is Rain in the town, everything is bleak downtown and you have to escape with the gondola up with the hope of the rain becoming snow.
Second to suffer would be Pamporovo because of its positioning (most southern of the 3 BG and amongst lower mountains).
Statistics and past history say that is the case.
Here and there there will be save haven patches of artificial snow left to continue to slide down.
Realiy.
The last one from the list of 3 Bulgarian resorts to begin the thining progress woud be the good old Borovets.
There, because of its positioning in the Rila mountain which is the highest and the biggest above 2300meters as a mass and with the best snow record from any place in Bulgaria, will begin first the melt around the paths in Borovets which is 1400m above sea.
The northern slopes are well protected from the sun so no problems for good few weeks.
There you have the advantage of ski and connect from one to other ski area with ease.
Try to avoid the weekends because this winter Boro is the favorite place for the people of the capital Sofia to get their fix on a weekly basis.
NOTE:All of this scenario is for about first or second week of March not earlier.
By then the charter flights will be dissapearing, the lifts will start closing or extending the close(bizz word-maintenance) times and the people will start to look for other activities that skiing down the valleys in Bulgaria.
I am not sure how far the season will last .
Undestanding the BG mentality fully I can bet that the season will close no later than 5th of April.
Just fact of life and question of finance.

For you though going skiing next week you can sleep Smile Smile nicely in the knowledge that everything will be PERFECT.you have had chosen the best choice of resort so no worries there. Smile

re: Concerned

Appreciated guys, just been working my backside off and really looking forward to my snowboarding. After seeing the perfect weather recently I was a little concerned with warmer weather on the way.

Mornings are usually good but with the temperature invariably means that it gets pretty slushy in places.

re: Concerned

Mikey is correct, but no worries at the moment, and i'm not completely sure we have seen the last of the snow, the heaviest falls we have seen in the past seasons have come towards the end of Feb, and into March... Easter is early this year, so i'm thinking that the resorts will stay open for that at least... for us, if there is any snow and they shut Bansko, we will head off down to Dobriniste, Bezbog can be great in the spring Very Happy

re: Concerned

thank you Mr M. Our first experience of Boro was the last week of February when J learnt to ski and i was designated helper in his learn to ski group. We had daytime temps of 14-18C. yes there was freeze thaw conditions but we had clear blue skies and enough snow to ski on, and there had been no where near as much snow earlier in the season as there has been this year!!
