Alot of other places are great for riding fresh pow , great parks , but again we all like different places for different reasons , money no object .....yes i would ride elsewhere but i can genuinly say i would still come to Bulgaria each year too .....have met more friends and locals who i see year in year out , cant say that for other places i go / ride at ...except my local dome
If it wasn't for a trip to Bulgaria, Bansko, last year I wouldn't be wasting 000's of £' son 3 ski holidays this year.
We had a great time there in February and this year we are trying Borovets having already done France over teh new year and doing Italy in 3 weeks time.
Bulgarian skiing is fine if there is snow, just like any other resort.
A tiny bit of research would have told you that Bulgaria in December/January is risky at best
Having been going to Borovets in late Jan for the past 10 years, like Shaun states Dec/Jan a bit risky. There has been a dramatic change in snow conditions in the past 3 years and looking dodgy for Jan 22. I have already booked my annual leave for 2012 and intend to give 3rd week inFeb a try next year.
dbt & I teamed many years ago whist in Borovets it seems like a pilgrimage to us, we meet old and new friends every time (Christo Angelov, Kas & Bobby are a bonus) and the skiing whist ...

Do it Man - not a chance mate!
Look on the internet all you like - if you went to a top French resort and ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in restaurants and got drunk every night in bars then you'd already be well on your way, if not over the £1k price limit!
Obviously you can do it for a lot less - but if a burger and chips + a coke for lunch is 20E (Avoriaz last year) then 160 Euros a day is easily used up if you're not careful.
do it man... in a top french resort i doubt you can get lift pass, ski hire, lessons, accommodation in a private 2 bedroom self catering chalet with sauna less than 5 minutes walk from the gondola. then be able to eat out and get drunk every night and not be penny pinching whilst your out because thats not a good time for me!
i have a budget of £100 per day in borovets and my day is usually full english in the morning with coffee and orange juice... ...
thats what i thought mattsville!

i have a budget of £100 per day in borovets and my day is usually full english in the morning with coffee and orange juice... pizza or chicken an chips or something for lunch with a few pints
then after skiing few more pints and maybe something else to eat go home get changed then hit a restaurant some wine then on the ale for the night usually till around 1 or 2 am!!! home sleep then do it all again ha ha...
its hard work but i like it... cant see me doing all that on under a grand in a top french resort!
i could imagine something like like staying in a half board chalet eating what your given morning and night and taking a few chocolate bars out for lunch... couple of very expensive beers then off to bed feeling ripped off by some snotty french barman!!! i would imagine i would need at least 200 euro per day spending money if i wanted to have the same holiday in a top french resort... then the expense of ski hire lift pass lessons etc...
once im bored of borovets and i can ski really well ill look at going somewhere else but i reckon i would still have to go to bulgaria once a year as well because its a good laugh!
