I put this on the forum last week and was shot down. Sorry guys but Bulgaria is just not worth it. I too had the misfortune of watching all the weather forecasts and praying for snow. Bulgaria is just not good enough to call itself a ski area any more. People will come on here saying how good it is, I suggest these poor buggers have purchased rental properties.

Do yourself a favour, stop the constant snow watch and go to a decent resort its worth the extra 200 quid. Bulgaria is on the way out as a ski resort. People spend too much money , working hard for it to be ruined.
GIVE IT UP BULGARIA STOP PRETENDING TO BE A SKI RESORT ITS OVER>

IT NEVER HAS BEEN A SNOW SURE RESORT IN jan and probly never will be , so come later
yes, we know you had a bad holiday Des. You have already posted as such and I feel for you, really I do. I have had ski holidays with poor snow too. Its the luck of the draw though particularly early in the season in BG and there will be weeks when the skiing is great so I wouldn't say its NOT a ski resort or 'that it is over', that's just being over dramatic and sensationalist.

To state DO NOT GO TO BULGARIA is unfair as it does have many many other wonderful things to offer besides skiing. Granted, at this time of year most posters are interested in a ski holiday but sensationalist headlines like this just winds people up - particularly those who have fallen in love with the country.
I was there for a week in November and had a fantastic time - we did off roading and hiking - went to the top of the Perelik and lots of sightseeing. I wasn't there to ski - I was glad there wasn't snow as it would have hampered me in getting around.
Tourism (and not just ski tourism) is important to the economy of Bulgaria so don't be surprised if people object to your negativity.
Last year they had a huge dump of snow resulting in fantastic skiing throughout February - any one who was there last Feb will vouch for that. Amazing conditions! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the snow forecast around the 20th Jan will keep many of the tourists happy during this season.
i went to borovets in march last year and had an amazing time sking there are pleanty of slopes for beginners and intermediate skiers... compared to top european resorts im sure borovets is lacking in size and class however i dont know where you are getting an extra 200 quid from! i remember going to kitzbuhel about 18 years ago and the price of a can of coke back then was about £2 so i cant even imagine what its like now!

last time i went every slope was open perfect conditions had 6 days lift pass ski hire and tuition had my breakfast lunch and dinner in a restaurant every day got pissed every night sang karaoke met loads of people and had a great holiday and all for under £1000 for a week and we also had our own private chalet with its own sauna no more than 100 meters from the slopes!
you tell me where i can get that in a top european resort and ill try it next year!!!!

re: DO NOT GO TO BULGARIA
Ryan,
You need to get on Tinterweb and have a good look round Dude. I absolutely guarantee i could get you everything you have mentioned in a top french resort for alot less than £1,000 a week ........... ( aslong as it's out of school holidays)
Why do people go to Bulgaria, and not Tignes? This is why, The people in Bulgaria are friendly, The skiing can be fantastic. You can afford to take your family, and within reason let the kids have what they want.(happy kids = happy parents) In Tignes 6 euros, plate of chips 5.5, coke 5euros. Adult lift pass for 6 days 222.5e, Ski hire 117, Board136e. I have the chance to go to France each year, but choose to take my family to Bulgaria.
Alot of other places are great for riding fresh pow , great parks , but again we all like different places for different reasons , money no object .....yes i would ride elsewhere but i can genuinly say i would still come to Bulgaria each year too .....have met more friends and locals who i see year in year out , cant say that for other places i go / ride at ...except my local dome
