re: Hated Plovdiv?

Hi Dickie,
It seems that it just depends on what you are looking for and how much time you have to visit. 45 min is just nothing :-) and it can only make you hate everything. Like visiting Dublin in 45 min , haha. It is possible with the double decker of course ...

Welcome back Dickie - I've missed you!

Glad you had a lovely time.

What was a maid doing folding your underpants? - you should be ashamed of yourself leaving them laying around for her to find - bet she couldn't resist them Wink

Hi Dickie, great report!

Now was she folding up the Superman undies or the Thomas the Tank Engine Ones?

Think you need to read my report again Dickie and explain where I said the resort had gone downhill Question

I stated that the resort was more expensive which is a fact, I said that the Morgavets staff were poorer which you agree with. The new 4 man chairlift is unused for 75% of the day, so to put it where they have is rediculous. The piestbashers have no idea how to groom the slopes even when they have 200 cms to play with.

The point I made was that they intend to place 12000 more beds in the resort over the next 2 years, and the resort cannot cope with that. At present there are 6000 beds and that is sufficent for the slopes and lifts. The new planned Gondola will be capeable of getting 2000 people a day up the mountain.
So just imagine 3 times the number of people on the slopes, and tell me I'm wrong.

Really please you had a great time though Wink

re: Hated Plovdiv?

I thought Plovdiv was lovely. It would have been much better to stroll through the old town in MORE than 45 mins, rather than have an impatient tour group waiting at every street corner. Apart from a kid, I was the only one to explore the Roman ampitheatre. Very interesting mix of Eastern European and Turkish/Middle Eastern architecture. I even liked the atmosphere in the modern shopping area. Good shops for modern Bulgarian music (they'll advise and let you listen- think techno!), clothes ...

Apart from a kid, I was the only one to explore the Roman ampitheatre. Very interesting mix of Eastern European and Turkish/Middle Eastern architecture. I even liked the atmosphere in the modern shopping area. Good shops for modern Bulgarian music (they'll advise and let you listen- think techno!), clothes (the service of a boutique, prices of Primark), sports stuff, mobiles. There was a seemingly romantic (if treacherous and icy) bridge at one end of town, which actually led over a car park to building site :-) Then we had to slip and slide back across it. I don't know how the older Bulgarians manage it every day!
Hardly any beggars, although a large group of rich westerners obviously attracts a few. They weren't half as persistent as in some poor countries, or compared to the Romanians you get on the Tube, or the guys who hang around the cashpoints in Bristol.
I was really interested in the place - but perhaps less geeky people looking for fun and western standards would be bored.
