Difference in tuition between skiing and boarding.

Already looking at early birds for 10/11 season and have decided that we want to try boarding.
Thought it would be a laugh to have a holiday where we are all the same level and falling over.

However I'm slightly confused as to why the majority of companies only have 3 days boarding tuition as part of their packages, compared to skiing tuition which is normally 6 days.

Is it because you take more knocks and bumps learning to board or!!!!!!!!

re: Difference in tuition between skiing and boarding.

When I went I paid extra for additional Snowboard lessons after the 3 days.

We had the same idea, where the wife came boarding instead of skiing as it meant we would be in the same classes. After 2 days she had dumped boarding and gone back to skiing as boarding was too difficult!!

re: Difference in tuition between skiing and boarding.

The reason they only give three days lessons is because after two days most people are qualified enough to be a snowboard instructor themselves .............

The third day is spent in the bar showing you how to tell every person in the room that you are a snowboard instructor .............

re: Difference in tuition between skiing and boarding.

Mitch,
The reason is quite simple really, in 3 days you can normally get to grips with the board and technique, as it is less technical than learning to ski. With skiing you learn to snowplough, then parralell, then carve etc, with boarding practice is the quickest way to learn.
Or I may be wrong and it could just be that after 3 days you get BORED !!!, sorry I know a terrible pun, enjoy.

re: Difference in tuition between skiing and boarding.

I tried boarding a few years back.
Didn't want to pay for lessons. I just watched and learned. It was easy.
Or so I thought.
In the two hours I was strapped to the board I stood up about three times and spent the rest of the time wriggling around on the floor doing the worm.
In the same two hours my kids jumped onto their boards shot down the first nursery / green run then were straight off to the adjacent blue run for two goes then down the red.
Just my luck to be given a faulty board ...
