Returned from a very enjoyable week in Bansko 13th March, skiing was amazing, weather great, should have been perfect except for two incidents i witnessed on my last day. Now we all know that skiing/boarding is not without risks, and that accidents can happen to the most experienced skiers/ boarders, however it is a choice we make. I was having a break at Shiligarnika when down the slope at speed came a boarder with a baby strapped to his back, i was so angry and upset at the thought of what could hapen to that baby if he had fallen or been taken out by another skier/ boarder. Later the same day i witnessed a skier with a baby strapped to his chest, what the H..., do these people think that accidents only happen to others!
I'm assuming you are taking the proverbial p..., otherwise please explain why it is okay to take a baby skiing/boarding, especially when you are all supporting pete's pleas to wear a helmet (myself included)
I am not taking the proverbial p... as you put it Denise, i have skied with my daughter, in a purpose made baby carry backpack. We stick to areas like Challin Valog when it is quiet, and she loves it, especially going under the snow cannons on the drag lift... At no time did i or her mother consider it dangerous, no more so than carrying her in the same rucksack whilst hiking over uneven ground. As for supporting the compulsary wearing of helmets, i do not... i support the freedom of choice ...

I will be much more concerned when she starts to learn to ski, the likelyhood of injury is much more of a problem, especially as she starts to move up onto the slopes... but what do we do ??? stop her, just in case something happens ??? No, we will do our best to protect her, but still allow her to experience and grow...
Im sorry if you do not agree with us and consider our actions to be reckless, fortunately the faceless powers that exist in the UK who determine your lives have not got to Bulgaria yet, and hopefully never will....
have seen loads of people with very small childeren on bikes with a kind of trailer which the kids sit in, I personally have thought these were dangerous if on main roads, but each to their own. I wouldnt ski with a child straped to me as I am not confident enough. My hubby on the other hand possibly would as he is a very experienced skier.
I understand what your saying but I have seen children wacked on the back of the head by a swing travelling at speed. Do we lock our kids up and wrap ...

I understand what your saying but I have seen children wacked on the back of the head by a swing travelling at speed. Do we lock our kids up and wrap them in cotton wool or do we let them live a happy life with a few trips to A and E. I know as a child which I prefered and I have the scares to prove it
Fair point Nm and SteveC, your child and your choice.
Maybee we are so used to the coseted Hand S lifestyle that everything we see we assess on a risk basis, maybee we should look at it some other way.
I can see denises point, and understand her concerns, but nothing anyone says is gonna get me off this fence!!!.
Same applies to taking kids out on the back of a bike. As a parent you are constantly making decisions on behalf of your children and one parent will make different decisions to another. I have also made different decisions between my children as my experiences as a mother as varied over the years. It is a very individual decision and you do what you feel is right at the time.
If it was all about minimising risks then we would wrap them in cotton wool and not leave the house.
That's fine Denise, we all have our own views. I respect your decision it is up to the individual to decide for themselves. Steve would not go anywhere that would put Jess in danger and he only takes her on the nursery slope at Chalin Valog he would not ski the higher slopes and he would not ski with her in a crowd where someone could accidently crash into them. We are responsible parents but we also want our child to have experiences and not be locked up in her bedroom.
