Double pricing in restaurants

There's been talk on another forum about some places having 2 seperate menu's, I've never noticed it but then I didn't know to look for it, but, Apparently if you order from the English Menu you are being charged double what the Bulgarian menu charges. This is apparently against the Law in Bulgaria.
Has anyone seen this happen to them on Holiday

re: Double pricing in restaurants

A friend owns a place in Bansko. He went for several weeks last season, so should have qualified for the "frequent user" discount. Apparently, you have to be Bulgarian to get it Confused

re: Double pricing in restaurants

use to do the same thing in prague, just remeber locals are on realy low wages and there is no way they can afford the prices we pay, unlikely to happen in many resorts would possibly be just bansko as is a village pamps and borovets are ski resorts aimed at tourists. If there is a double pricing you order from the non english menu Confused see what you get.

re: Double pricing in restaurants

I noticed this last year. Even the reps get the local charge. It is still cheap enough, so I do not worry about it. You are having a great time.....so enjoy. Booze

re: Double pricing in restaurants

Just to clear this up, this is not double pricing, but people who work in the resort, get a staff discount. Like many other jobs this is just a perk of the job.

Also as some of you have pointed out, people who work in the resort work for very low wages, including reps.

re: Double pricing in restaurants

im sorry but thats not right. I know of more than one restaurant in Borovets that operated a two tier system last year, in fact its the reason i will not go back to one of tannys restaurants, the silly gits only gave me an english menu and my friend a Bulgarian one, with vastly differant prices. Also having just got back last night after five weeks in boro ive picked up a lot more of the inside track.
The reps get 'special' prices to recommend the restaurants, the instructors get a cut on ...

Can't say for Borovets, can only say for Pamps.

re: Double pricing in restaurants

Travel agents get discounted travel, car workers get cheaper cars, bank staff get cheaper loans, etc etc etc......

Prices are clearly marked on all menus - if you don't like the prices ..................... don't order the food.

re: Double pricing in restaurants

If the prices are still as cheap (VERY CHEAP) as they were last year, what does it matter?

The bulgarians get paid peanuts, so how can the majority of them be expected to pay what we do?
