I know what you mean about insurance cover and each ones different, but if you have an accident and have been drinking they are unlikely to pay out, weather ski or sun, there was that case of the girl who feel over a balcony in turkey and her insurance was void as she had had a drink, wasnt drunk!! she was taking the company to court saying if you sell holiday insurance you should know people will drink.
nice though for this guy to threaten people who do drink and ski!!!!
In Jan whilst taking a break with a large brandy off Yastrebets 2, a ski instructor told me that I needed another one to perfect my left turn as the current brandy only worked for the right. I took his advice and guess what, perfect left turns the rest of the day! Definitely a good idea to have a little drink to relax! Haven't ever seen a drunk and disorderly skier/boarded but have seen plenty with hangovers. They usually appear around midday for an hour or so then slope off back to bed! ...

im not saying thats gonna happen every time but knowing insurance companies..they will try anything and sieze on anything yuo avoid paying out on a policy.. i still think its a grey area but a 0.33 google search reaveals... http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=active&q=drinking+skiing+accident+insurance&meta=&aq=f&oq=
Most people dont know what their insurance covers, I agree with the problem as well for people who have had a skin full the night before and then ski are still drunk, these people are prob the same ones that do it and drive in the morning!!!
Insurance is always a grey area, but on a sun holiday you usually arnt covered for extreme sports, extreme sports are banana rides, hiring scotters (I dont mean the insurance for the scotter I mean if you have an accident and have to be flown home), ...

Insurance is always a grey area, but on a sun holiday you usually arnt covered for extreme sports, extreme sports are banana rides, hiring scotters (I dont mean the insurance for the scotter I mean if you have an accident and have to be flown home), jetskis and a lot of other things that you dont even think are extreme. if you have had a drink you wont be covered, medical teams will record it they do in this country as well.
As for having another drink to make your turns better what a stupid bit of advice, ski instructors should know better!!!
My point of view - if you have one or two drinks at home, and you drive, you can feel the effects. Imagine doing this on a ski holiday, when skiing is something you may only do for 1 or 2 weeks a year - as opposed to driving that you do every day. You need your wits about you, not only to ensure you don't wipe anyone out, but to stand a chance of getting out of the way if someone comes careering down the piste behind you.
Leave the drink until the skis are off for the day
In Canada our ski instructor told us off on our first day for having a glass of wine with lunch(in a nice way though!), we felt like naughty school kids, lol. We then looked forward more to 3.30 and a nice relaxing bevvy . But i must admit we did ski better with a clear head.
I wonder how many of the 'its ok to drink and ski' people drink and drive, don't wear a seat belt, and use a mobile whilst driving. This is proving to be one of the worst seasons for ski and board deaths, yet some people still think they know better. I've never understood why anyone would pay shed load of money to go on a ski/board holiday, then drink so much they can't get up to do what they came for in the first place. I doubt that any drunk driver intended to kill anybody, same applies ...

Another death reported today, a woman in Kaprun, Austria. Two skiers crashed into each other, the woman dies of a severed Aorta. Nothing in the news to say drink involved, but evern if it isn't, this is a sport that can cause so many injuries - just look at the Olympic Women's Downhill yesterday!
scary stuff. If you ski in the States and have accident they breathalise you and your insurance is void.
Glad it's not like that in Europe but I stick to the hot chocalate on the piste !
