Driving to Bankso

Am thinking of driving to Bankso from Sofia cos as far as i can tell its going to be the cheapest way for 5 people and 2 boards. Is the journey straight forward cos ive never driven abroad before. Or if theres much cheaper way that will do as well

It's definitely not straightforward - lots of steep hairpin bends!! Probably best to go for safe rather than cheap - especially if you haven't driven abroad before.

Any more info on this coach journey? Which company, colour of the buses, where do you catch it? How long does it take to get to Bansko? Does it cater forskis, boots poles and suitcases as well then?

I might well take it myself.

It's a nice drive from Sofia down the E79 for just over an hour and a half, then turn left at the junction for Simitly - after that it's about 30-45 minutes through the aforementioned bendy, and extremely pot-holed roads. It's definitely do-able. I did it today but the conditions were very icy. Make sure you have winter/snow tyres, it will make things a lot easier. Bulgarian roads are like nothing else in the whole of Europe, If you have any doubts don't do it. The Bus or taxi option would ...

Hi Phil
I've been looking at transfer costs from Sofia to Bansko and return. Taxi prices seem to start from 180 euros upwards, which for the convenience of being taken airport to door is not bad and takes about 2hrs.

Yes Dave, a return trip for 5 people ( 2adults+ 3 children) in a 7 seater car. But if you can point me in the direction of a cheaper deal I'd be very grateful.
