My name is Friso Spoelstra and I'm a photographer from Amsterdam. Next week I'll be in Razlog, Bansko, Elenishta and Dobrenishte to photograph the festivities around Easter.
What day will the celebrations be? Thank you in advance!
Best regards,

Easter - the anniversary of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ - is movable feast and is celebrated on the first Sunday (Easter Day / Sunday) with or after a full moon in the period between April 4th and May 8th. Easter Sunday and Easter Monday have been national holidays for a few years now but they have always been observed by the Bulgarian people in the tradition, set by the Orthodox Church. The festivities are not very different from those in the rest of Europe. Easter eggs are dyed on Maundy (Holy) Thursday or Holy Saturday and Easter cakes and buns are baked. During the Holy week devout people go to church every day and the service on Holy Saturday night is attended by lots of people. Easter Sunday is the end of Lent and tables cannot be seen for food. The feast traditionally begins with striking dyed eggs. Luck and good health await its owner.
Thank you everyone! The info about the Koukeri and other Bulgarian folk traditions is actually what I'm looking for. Do you happen to know the program for the Easter celebrations in the area next week? Can't find the places and the dates.... Thanks again! Friso

I read in the Rough Guide that there will be a Kukeri celebration in Elenishta on Easter sunday. After that there will be a feast with folk dancing and (ofcourse) a lot of drinking, so they say... This doesn't ring a bell to you? The ambassy in Holland doesn't know anything except for a concert in Bansko but that is not what I'm looking for.
