Euros or levs?

Hi i'm going to Borovets on 28 Jan 07 and was just wondering whether to bring euro's or levs now that Bulgaria is in the EU. Thanks.

Levs, there was a news item from a bulgarian minister explaining that Bulgaria will not be not using euros untill 2009.

Take pounds with you. Just make sure that they are not torn or have any writing on them.

I am getting more and more confused about what currency to take, I can not get my head around handing over english money, how much change will they know how to give you. Also I have heard you have to be careful where to change your money. Do you really get such a better axchange rate in Bulgaria than just taking Levs?

Take pounds, but you done't pay for everything in pounds, you exchange your pounds into Lev's in your hotel and then pay for everything in Levs. Stick to changing your money in the hotels and you will be okay.

Or even better. Most cards work in the cash machines so withdraw what you want out there. You will bet a better rate this way.
If you want to take cash it's simple. If you live in the UK take GB£s if you live in a country that uses euros take euros. However if you can, change the cash in a bank in resort as you get a better rate and with all cash make sure the cash you take are non marked, non ripped notes.

Your best bet is to take your bank card with you. If you exchange cash you will get a retail exchange rate and probably a comission charge. If you use a cash machine you will incur a comission charge but you should get a preferable commercial exchange rate. I think if you take money out abroad from the cash machine the banks will wait untill the end of the day and do an exchange on the money that everyone has requested during that period. Therefore the overall exchange transaction is much much greater and they will get a beter exchange rate and pass it on. You should check this out with your bank. I would never bring large quantities of cash on holiday with me. Just bring enough cash to get you out of a tight spot in the first day.
