If you don't do normal exercises, like regular jogging, its pretty important that you do at least something. Or you'll wake up the second day in agony or worse, get injured. remember most insurance companies call this a dangerous sport, people are killed every year, so give it a little respect and be prepared. Google will find you plenty of easy exercises you can do at home
Work on your thighs, thay are the most important i think. Rining a bike or a stepping machine are my preferred mothods. stepping machines are quite cheap. Try bending your knees at all times, really builds up the thigh muscles.
Skiing can be hard on the knees. These act likeshock absorbers for your legs, keeping them bent is therefore of upmost importance. If, when you are skiing, your thighs start to burn, you know you are doing it right. Unfortnuately, you will ache like hell the next morning. Best thing is just to do something that gets your thighs going (and aching) one or twice a week before you go. Cycling is best - low impact. You'll soon get used to it. if all else fails, take some asprin / ibuprofen each ...

Our gym instructor told us to lean against the wall with knees bent for as long as possible & to start about a month before going. But this is on top of what we normally do in the gym.
