Fatal Accident in Borovets?

There seem to be rumours of a fatal accident in Borovets last week. Anyone know anything of this or is it just a rumour?

re: Fatal Accident in Borovets?

A skier crashed into another when he skied into a neighbouring piste due to poor marking - at least what the people present at the scene of the accident said. He died.

The company responsible for the management of the slopes said he had been skiing at too high speed. Whatever the cause, there have been a number of accidents in recent years in Bulgarian ski resorts - last year, for example, 6 people were killed and 250 were seriously injured (according to the Bulgarian press).

I guess we only hear of the accidents in the UK when a Brit gets killed - like last year when one of a group that usually went skiing with Prince Charles crashed into some facilities in very foggy conditions and passed away too. I think that happened in Bansko. Or Borovetc?

skiing like rugby and horse riding has its risks and if you look into all these kinds of sports you will find that deaths and serious accidents are quiet requent, often you only hear of them if they happen in your local area for instant last year 2 people died in horse riding accidents and one rugby player was paralised from the neck down in my local area, if you lived near any ski resort iam sure you would hear of 1 death and several serious accidents every year, just do what you can to ...

Don't let it ruin your holiday

if people respect the ski code, accidents would not happen. people must show respect, but as with cars there are idiots out there, these people should be taken of the slopes and given a good bashing.

Skiing is a very dangerous sport. Expecially for someone of a older age of 50. Short of having a speed limit not much can be done. Although who decides what speed someone is capable of skiing controlably at. Varys for a lot of people. Follow ski code of course. Busy slopes, beginners and bad conditions slow your speed.

We live in Samakov and are skiing for the whole season. Our landlord is a doctor and works in Samakov hospital but is based in Borovets over the ski season. The amount of injuries he tells us about is pretty scary but does not put us off.We asked him if he skied and his answer was a quick "no",no way.In fact its been quite interesting that the majority of locals living next to the ski resort dont ski???.I agree with the recent postings that if you keep your speed to a level that you are in ...
