Bankso in Half Term is going to be a nightmare, spoke to a guy from the tourist board there yesterday and they have a World Cup Slalom event on the 26/27 Feb which will mean half the runs will be closed for up to a fortnight beforehand as they prepare the slopes.
We have flights booked to Sofia and accom booked in Bansko but I think we are going to just write off the accom and head for Borovets instead
`Half the runs' ??????????????? errrrrrrr, a slight exaggeration
The GS event should not effect any runs other than red 3 from the top and black 9 (Tomba)
All other runs will be open to skiers...
There is no denying that it will be busy, the first ever mens FIS World Cup ever to be staged in Bulgaria, a real coup for Bansko, and a `thumbs up' from the FIS that Bansko is capable of hosting such events... I'll be there in the massed crowds, ringing my cowbells, and shouting `oi oi oi'
To be fair he said the runs on the right side of the mountain as you look at, 2 reds and the black, but thats a fair chunk of a not that large ski area.
Especially when it was already going to be heaving due to half term, going to mean all the other slopes are going to be even busier.
The travel brochures in the UK make no reference to it so there are going to be some pretty annoyed families there at half term
