Festa Winter Palace

I can't find much in the way of reviews on the internet for the Festa Winter Palace....is it just very new...or a mythical hotel that doesn't really exist?!!

Is it worth the 5 star rating and is the location and food any good?

Any thoughts would be great!!!

re: Festa Winter Palace

Hi,

It was built quite a few years ago but due to certain things it stood empty for a while, so had no furnishing, insides etc. Last year it was completely finished, with all interiors etc being completed and opened for the first time. It is just about worthy of it's 5 star status - but mainly in terms of the service you get as they really look after you - saying that Yastrebets hotel is only a 4star and in my opinion much nicer. It is very old-style in design rather than modern, so that more depends on taste. It is located at the bottom of the Cherveno Zname black slope - ie: near the Sitnyakavo express lift. Stand at the bottom, with your back to the slope and it's in front of you, slightly to the right - ie: about 20 secs walk to the express lift.

Not eaten in there, but the drinks are good!! Not sure how much their costs are this year, but if it was a lot more than say Yanakiev / the Lodge (4stars) then I wouldn't bother to pay the difference, if it's a similar amount then I would probably go for it.

re: Festa Winter Palace

That must have been the "shell" of a grand hotel we saw that was not finished near the horse trecking a few year ago- did look nice even though it was just a shell then- nice location too

re: Festa Winter Palace

Ian,

I believe it was built by a bulgarian or russian guy who earned lots of money somehow!! He was to use it as his home but it was taken from him for whatever reason. Does look fantastic though.

Hey Kas, has there been any improvements in Borovets this year regarding ski runs/lifts etc?

Thanks

Hi Tateyheed,

They have put new snow cannons on the nursery slope Rotata (the slope next to Yanakiev) which is very good news for beginners. If you remember last year, this was brown for most of the time, so as long as the conditions remain cold, at least it can be used - they are finishing this off now, but it will be ready for the season. They have also put floodlights on this slope, so the 3 bottom rila runs all have them now and will all be used for night -skiing. I know the Rotata is ...

If you remember last year, this was brown for most of the time, so as long as the conditions remain cold, at least it can be used - they are finishing this off now, but it will be ready for the season. They have also put floodlights on this slope, so the 3 bottom rila runs all have them now and will all be used for night -skiing. I know the Rotata is only small, but with snow-cannons on there, it will give beginners an additional slope as last year the Rila beginner slope was packed.

Also, the pipes from the Yastrebets reservoir are being extended to 'feed' the Rila runs snow cannons. Basically last year, the Yastrebets cannons were 'fed' by the reservoir, but the Rila slopes were fed by 'local water and cost a fortune - hence they weren't always on, even if the temperature allowed... By feeding them with the reservoir water, it is in essence 'free water', so they will be able to be on all the time subject to temps. This is really good news especially if the gondola is shut due to winds.

Not loads of new stuff, but helping to make the existing things better!

Kas
