I am planning my first ski holiday with the little one, I have decided on Borovets but it seems that unlike a bucket and spade holiday there is a lot to learn, ski rental, lift passes, tuition etc. My question for now is, do you need to pay just to go onto the slopes? i.e if I just want to mess around on the lower slope with a sledge do I need to buy some kind of ski pass or can I do that for free? Probably a daft question but I am confused.
More daft questions to follow shortly ...
Hello
I am planning my first ski holiday with the little one, I have decided on Borovets but it seems that unlike a bucket and spade holiday there is a lot to learn, ski rental, lift passes, tuition etc. My question for now is, do you need to pay just to go onto the slopes? i.e if I just want to mess around on the lower slope with a sledge do I need to buy some kind of ski pass or can I do that for free? hi ben. there is no need to buy a pass it you just want to mess around on the slopes in the village. It might be worth buying a half day pass some day to go up the mountain. If you pike a clear day the views are amazing. Not sure if a kid will appreciate them but they might find the gondola ride exciting. Wait until the weather is nice and then just pick up the pass at the gondola ticket desk
You can spend days on end on in front of the Rila hotel just messing around, people watching, sledging, having tea and hot chocolate and... darn, I want to go there now! But it's worth going up w/ the gondola at least once, as long as the little one's not scared of heights and you both dress warmly.

Jayne you can pay just to go up in the gondola. If you want to sledge with your child you could walk up the ski road a bit,it follows the gondola route so easy to spot. But depending on conditions you may be in for a long walk! Or get a taxi to the halfway point but make sure you negotiate a price first!
Thanks Daniel - all she needs is a bit of snow - nothing major - we took them up to the Greek mountains last year and there was only enough snow at the sides of the road (like ice) but my kids were in heaven! So any snow fall will be a bonus for me. Is the gondola pass same price as if you were going to ski and use a ski pass and other lifts?
