We are two couples going to Borovets for the first time and staying in the Log cabins behind the Hotel Iglika. Has anyone stayed in these and what are they like? There seems to be a lot of positive feed back on the hotel itself.
Also we would like to get the local buses to surrounding villages how easy is it to do and also to get to the capital Sofia, or is it better to stick to organised excursions.
Your comments would be greatly appreciated and also which excursions are to be recommended ...

I would avoid the local buses - most are pretty basic and without a rudimentary understanding of cyrillic you might struggle. A taxi would negotiate a passably acceptable fare for a day trip but frankly, as one who has lived here 6 years, Sofia is missable.
You can catch a mini bus that runs regularly to Samakov. It costs 1lev 80. The dodgy taxi drivers in their Ladas will try and con the British into paying 20 lev for the journey so dont bother. Bus leaves from opposite the Samakov hotel. Not sure about other journeys. Sofia is about 1 hour 20 mins away by taxi. Cost around 120 lev return.
Taxi from Samakov back to Boro is about 10 lev. Haggle if they want more.
There is a regular bus service to Samokov Town as well as private mini buses. Buses from the bus station in Samokov go to some pretty surrounding villages. eg Beli Iskar, Govedarci (which has its own ski run) and then onto Malyvitsa, 2727 m height. This is a small ski resort with 4 km of slopes (black to blue). You can hire equipment for the day, restaurants etc. It makes a nice change for a day from Borovets.
Hope this gives you some ideas. Any more info, let me know.
We,a family of 4, stayed at the Iglika Villas in mid Jan this year. The chalet we stayed in was furnished with what we assumed was cast offs from the hotel, so we were a little disappointed. We were also in the chalet nearest the road and a small rubbish dump (fortunately there were no windows on that side so we were spared the view). The shower was in with the loo,so take a few cloths with you to dry the floor after your shower. The chalet was big enough for 4 but no more. There were a few ...

The shower was in with the loo,so take a few cloths with you to dry the floor after your shower. The chalet was big enough for 4 but no more. There were a few stray dogs about but caused us no bother. The plus side is that the chalets are very central, only 100 yards from Gondola & chair lifts & beginners slopes(hopefully there is still snow at the bottom) . I eat just about anything & did so at the hotel(palace) so survived on breakfast & dinner just about. There was a hot plate in the chalet, a couple of minimarkets 30 yards away. Hope you have at least half as good a holiday as we did.
Maliovitsa is a old rusty place with very old drags which is not for beginners or intermediate at all and the runs are just rubbish. One very steep slope and 2 very easy ones but to reach them you have to take the nasty one up to the top which is reachable with a hard drag .Recently the runs there are not done with machine so be prepare.Maybe a walk up to the hut along the fast river and back is a better option but you can do the same from Boro top gondola to the Mussala hut and back ...
