Go to www.engelbert-strauss.com. I got some boots for work that are very warm and are built for snow. They are called the Canada boot. Also good for stepping over skiiers. If you don't want steel caps, try the shop 'Blacks' or TX Maxx, I bought a good pair of waterproof/thermal boots from there last year, about 30-35quid.

gala dinner is casual smart people do tend to make a little bit more of an effort, but not over the top.
