We'll be arriving in Borovets on the 19th December and departing on the 29th. Looking at the webcams and the snow forecast...it ain't looking too good!
It looks like the temperatures are dropping so I guess the cannons could go (are going?) but with very little white stuff due to fall out of the sky, what are people's views as to what the conditions of the slopes will be like and will there be any skiing available?

I realise that it's always a gamble when booking a ski trip and I know it's early in the season but as our family is scattered around, Bulgaria was a good choice.
Sitting here in our village 15km from Bansko, basking in beautiful sunshine... burning off the frost from overnight, -5 this morning, still only feels warm in the sunshine, in the shade its bloody freezing......... Snow is a fickle thing, we have no precipitation (rain), so no likelihood of snow, the weather supposedly is changing towards the weekend, but who knows ? The recent forecast was showing high temps ? All i can say is that when it snows, it snows...... not an inch or two, but half a metre, or a metre... 24 hours can transform a mountain....... I remember a couple of seasons ago we had no snow right up till the opening day, and on that day 60cm fell, almost cancelled all the opening day celebrations :-O If it is any consolation the Alps are not fairing much better, nor the Dolomites, cannon snow in the main save for a couple of exceptions.... Borovets now has snow cannons, the system expanded again this summer, the turbine versions can produce 30sqm of snow in 24 hours, have faith, you will ski somewhere :-)
Steve C
ps. as a footnote, we do hear this a lot, almost every season in fact, and it all seems to turn out ok :-)
Thank you so much for your response. I guess all I can do is hope for the best but I just don't want my kids to be disappointed, that's all. We've not had a family skiing holiday for some years now so want this to be a good one for them. What am I saying? I want to have a good skiing holiday - sod the kids! I'm stuck out here in The Sandpit for most of the year so I'm looking forward to same change in scenery. You're right about getting big snow dumps:I was in Lebanon earlier in ...
Steve,
Thank you so much for your response. You're right about getting big snow dumps:I was in Lebanon earlier in the year for a ski trip and on the first day it was mediocre conditions, followed by a day of complete white out then on day 3 perfect fresh powder everywhere so you're right, it can all change in 24 hours.
re:Getting Worrieing convinced them to come over xmas it would be a disaster if we havd Now!
I too am getting worried ......my wife and son have never been skiing before so having convinced them to come over xmas it would be a disaster if we had no snow!!!!......We arrive in Bansko on 19th December....can someone confirm if they have snow cannons? Thanks
re:Getting Worrieing convinced them to come over xmas it would be a disaster if we havd Now!
Not only do they have snow cannons, they have the highest concentration of cannons per km of any resort in Europe... 95% of runs are covered by cannons, this season 40 new cannons were installed, some replacing less efficient wand style cannons with high volume turbine cannons....
Christmas skiing is always a bit of a lottery, most UK visitors now preferring March, longer days, less busy, and almost guaranteed snow cover

Thanks Steve....i'm wishing we had aimed for later in season but tried to combine my love of skiining with my wifes request to escape for xmas ....hopefully Bansko will get some snow intime for 20th and the cannons will keep it topped up!!
