Hi all,
Thinking of buying Go Pro Hero 3 black camera, has anyone used one of these and do you think there worth the money. If not, any advice on alternatives would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Mick.
My colleagues uses a go pro for kayaking as he's an outdoor ed instructor. Some of the filming i;ve seen is pretty awesome. Brilliant quality and it looks a good sturdy camera. He 's got the fittings for his helmet and says it performs well.
I'm not great on the spec or technical stuff, but impressive results even when splashed in water and buffetted about. He uses a coating on the external case so water does not leave residue. Cannot justify the cost for me but wish i had one. ...

Just bought one for combinatioon of skiing and diving. Teenage son has taken it in school trip this week to Austria and will see results at weekend. We did some tests before he went and it looked pretty good, just waiting for real thing. Will report back!
One thing though - it is incredibly small and light - excluding the lens it is about the size of a zippo lighter & remote control is a great idea.
Thanks T & GW,
Tatey, come out next March and I'll let you look at it if I get one Have a great time.
GW, If you could let me know at the weekend it would be good. As I will probably get one next week for 3rd March.
I have just bought a Swann freestyle HD. You get the backpack screen waterproof casing and all of the attachments clamps etc. Its 1080HD and waterproof to 65 feet. I have had a quick go with it skiing and so far its been great.
Prices vary dependant on the seller and range from £140 to £299.
Update - school has just run and my son is in hospital after face-planting on slopes in Austria. He needs stiches to his nose, would it be incorrect to ask teachers if he was wearing camera and if it is OK?
2nd hand Go Pro might be for sale, only superficially blood stained!!!
Oh no GW, shouldn't laugh. I normally smash my nose up each year, but usually without the skis and boots on.
Cheers Moonhead, I'll check out the Swann.
Cheers Alan,
Think I'm gong with the Go Pro, trying to get one under £300 with the remote. Just got to keep it hidden from Jackie, along with the new skis and boots.
Mick.
See you on the 3rd
