pamps realy good great ski school all seem to be english speaking, 4 hours a day tuition, some nice easy green runs to gain your confidence I learnt here realy enjoyed it
Jem n nath, I learnt in Borovets - excellent ski school there too. I loved it but it came close to putting my wife off for good due to one long narrow green slope which crossed three reds! For my second year I went to Bansko. Although I have never been to Pamporovo which sounds really nice if somewhat limited (but probably perfect for beginners) the concencous seems to be that Bansko is by far and away the best resort. Hi Sam, long time no speak!
Having said that when I was in Bansko last year the absolute beginners were complaining that there were not enough nursery slopes. That may have changed this year with the opening of a new chair lift.
I suspect that Sam has got it right and Pamps is the place for you. Try Pamps this year but no matter how much you enjoy Pamps you must, must, must give Bansko a try next year.
Re cost I think we did it for less than £500 each including lessons, 4star HB hotel, passes and everything. We hired our clothes before we went - about £30 each although we spent £50 each on gloves (worth the investment!).
jem n nath - we went to Pamporovo last season - first time skiers (we're both the 'wrong' side of 45). We travelled with Balkan and stayed at Hotel Elina half board. It cost just under £500 each - including Balkan's full ski packs (ski and boot hire, lift passes, ski school, transport to and from slopes). This was pretty good as it was half term week, which is notoriously expensive. We spent very little extra while there - food in hotel good and drinks, etc very cheap. Ski school was ...

Ski school was first rate - English speaking instructors, very patient (I was particularly nervous) but encouraged us to push ourselves. The one we had skied with us from 9 until 4 every day with stops for hot drinks and lunches at the little log cabin cafes that were at the side of the slopes. The runs were great - and the scenery spectacular. We've booked again for Feb 2007. Get it booked - you'll have a fab time!
This will be my 3rd yr running in Pamps and I would definately reccomend it for beginners.
We have paid £365 for a week including hire etc half board at the Perelik for 6th Jan week with Thomsons. I think this is the cheapest week I've seen. Maybe cos its just after New Year. Last 2 yrs I went in Feb and it was good.
Ski School is excellent, met some nice people had a great time.
I'm buying here so thats how much I like it.
jem if you want to go to pamps in jan there are some good deals with crystal for about £280 ski hire tuition lift passes are around £85, also fab deal for bansko to perun hotel for £280 same date chris stayed there last year and by all accounts fantastic hotel. Bansko is the better resort but dont know what its like for total beginers. hope you get a good deal.
