I have just returned from Pamps and despite a 7 hour delay from Edinburgh, arriving at the hotel with 3 hours to ski time we made it ! I have just returned from Pamps and despite a 7 hour delay from Edinburgh, arriving at the hotel with 3 hours to ski time we made it ! The snow covering was not the best Mon /Tue but good enough for my lovely girlfriend to do her ski school (first time skier) and me duckimg around the runs that were open. Wed was shut due to high winds but we had a great night that night at the Bulgarian night organised by our rubbish rep, but great hotel the Findlandia. It is a really good night and well worth the visit (and thats from an apparantely tight Scotsman !)
The snow arrived for Wed Skiing despite it raining at the hotel resort the prev day so take a risk and dont go by the hotel weather.
Our hotel was great with only 2 complaints: You dont get an iron in the room you have to pay to get it done. Can be expensive if like me you wash but dont iron your entire suitcase before going on holiday, roughly 1 - 2.5 lev per item which is cool but unless you know what you need ironed in advance (ladies ??"!") it can be a problem.
Second is the claim of cable tv ! Most skiiers will know that after a long day on the slopes you like to chill, eat and watch the promised cable tv.... the hotel has bulgarian cable which has BBC24 and the Geographical Channel so if you are expecting more, bring a portable DVD player.
Apart from that, the Findlandia was excellent !! The food was a bit repetative on a HB basis but the room (we had a deluxe) was clean and really great.
It snowed for our last 3 days and Pamporovo came to life !! The runs were great, people great and everything about the place was great !
The people looking after the ski resort do a great job keeping the slopes open and even in our quieter first couple of days of no new snow and liitle existing snow, they always had a smile.
If you meet the guy with the 2 horses and carriage just before the village(horses billy and bobby) give him the 5 levs, its the best spent 5 levs in a very cheap and usually appreciative resort you will ever find.
Pamporovo is excellent and i am just about to go and book next years holiday !
great report Gazza!!
Will send you anti-depression-pills ASAP!
I always hope for a Belgian TV program but nope, have to learn to understand the bulgarian ones
