Gutted, extremely gutted! :(

Anyone any experience of this kind of unfortunate situation?

We're due to go to Pamporovo next week, today my daughter (aged 9) broke her arm (it's in plaster now) and won't be able to ski, which, obviously, means neither will I.

Of course the insurance company is closed so I can't get any answers from them 'til tomorrow, but is there a chance of cancellation refund or d'you reckon we'll have to toddle about depressed for a week?

I would think that any reputable insurance company will cover you for cancellation. Rotten bad luck, I feel for you.

What bad luck for you both. I do sympathise, my son (13)broke his wrist on our second day out there and while I still skied mornings on most days, I think it was definitely worse for him to be out there and to be unable to do much except watch. He couldn't even play pool, bowl, or use his psp properly!

Check your insurance policy - the cancellation and curtailment section.

I am with the Post Office and they pay in full (less the excess of course) if you have to cancel due to injury or illness of your travelling companion or close relative.

You will need written proof of the injury - doctor's letter, and a doctor will probably have to sign the claim form. It should tell you in the small print.

Wishing your daughter a speedy recovery and happy skiing in the future!

Thanks for your replies. Have looked at the policy and it states 'serious injury or illness', I'm not sure what that means and if it applies to a broken bone.

I would say a broken bone is pretty serious! I'm currently recovering from a cracked collar bone and 3 cracked ribs. i'm skiing in 4 weeks time so hope to be fully mended by then!

Feel for you both.

Check the definitions of the insurance policy. Does it define what "serious illness or injury" specifically means or covers (eg does it give examples)?

If it doesn't & the co. is being difficult re paying the claim tell them "it's not clear, is unfair and is misleading" & that they "are treating you unfairly". State you're making a formal complaint (doesn't have to be in writing - phone or email is fine". They have certain time to invstigate your complaint and ...

If the definition is nor clear you should be able to argue a broken bone IS serious.

Good luck, hope it heals soon and you can eventually get way.

I'll still be going!! I'm going to see how i feel skiing but if its still painful i'll be in the bar getting merry!! However, Its been 4 weeks since my injury so i should be fully healed by then.

I hope kitty and the family still get to go away though.

kitty

you should be covered how many in your party as if its not the lead person that has had the accident they may only pay for your daughter and one adult anyone else might have to go or lose there money!

If you are forced to go there is a kindergarden I think. I know she is old for that sort of thing but at least you could get out for a couple of hours each day knowing she was in good hands. And you could sell it to her that she is helping entertain the young ones and not realy being looked after at all?

Something similar happened to us a few years ago. Summer holiday - three weeks before our daughter dislocated her knee and ended up in full leg plaster. Insurance gave us a full refund, no prob
