Nightmare yesterday!!! Mountain Rescue job,
Otherhalf was on a private group lesson of 4 ppl and coming down the end of blue 5 I think it was where it joins to another run, a bulgarian boarder came flying down a red out of control and instead of turning just leant back so the nose of his board came up and he lost control.
Went crashing straight into my otherhalf, I was on another slope but apparently she rolled 3 times and somehow her foot came out of her snowboard boot.... it was just left in the binding. Really weird as her boot was done up very tightly aswell.
Instructor called mountain rescue and for some reason the rest of the group let the bloke who caused the accident go........ I got there a few minutes later and was far from happy that they hadnt kept hold of him
Mountain rescue got her on a skidoo and took her to the gondola where I then went down to the medical centre with her, 2 quick x-rays confirmed no breaks and just a sprained ankle.
Rang my insurance – Lloyds bank who do it through Axa, they were helpful and it meant I just had to pay the excess on the policy of £40 to the Bulgarian medical centre.
Just aswell we had insurance as the skidoo ride alone would have cost £200 nevermind the rest,
She’s had a rest today and stuck with R.I.C.E. now has a nice bruise in a weird line on the side of her foot.

Lucky lady....my boss was on Austria last week, hit an icy patch at the edge of the piste. One ski went one way, the other in the opposite direction, but her lower ski dug into the snow. Her binding didn't release as it should and has resulted in a really bad break to her tib and fib - 6 screws and a plate.
They had to pay 390Euro to the ambulance there and then - she needed an op and repatriation to the UK a few days later. Total bill so far - £10k roughly. Expected to be off ...

We're with Lloyds too, funnily enough - glad you got good service from them.
re: Had to use Mountain Rescue in Bansko yesterday
Glad it all worked out. Shame the boarded didnt wait around!!! I got taken out by a boarder over xmas that just left never even asked if I was ok. bad maners if nothing else. seems the mountain rescue was good though. Think you can buy insurance at the gondla fo 10leves that covers mountain rescue, sure someone will confirm.
re: Had to use Mountain Rescue in Bansko yesterday
yea my misses was boarding aswell so for her foot to come out of her boot is weird
It was the bansko medical centre that were happy to only take my excess off me,
I found lloyds insurance really helpful, the woman I got through to anyway, she rang me back a couple of hours later after she'd got all the details faxed over and confirmed they'd be covering everything!
No wind today so got some good shots at the top

Can't recommend the Post Office highly enough for insurance. We've had to claim on 4 out of 5 ski trips (my kids are accident prone!) and each time they have paid up within days, often by the end of the week in which the claim was placed.
Each time I have just had to pay the 50 euro excess up front (twice in Bulgaria) and that's it. Just call the P O help number, tell them what's happening, get a reference number, fill in the form when you get home and send it off with all the relevant ...

Just call the P O help number, tell them what's happening, get a reference number, fill in the form when you get home and send it off with all the relevant invoices etc. It is really that easy. And do not forget to claim for the unused days of your ski pack.
Dave, I hope your other half has a speedy recovery with no lasting problems.
re: Had to use Mountain Rescue in Bansko yesterday
I have had cause to use my insurance which is through HSBC, both on summer and winter holiday, both times they paid it all including the excess, so i did not have to pay a penny, and were very quick in resolving issues and damaged items when back in the UK, it just proves you get what you pay for, as some others had to pay the full medical bill and then claim back, on summer holiday it was nearly £2000. Dont buy cheap insurance get the best you can afford and reasd the small print

Been treating the otherhalfs foot pretty intensively with compression, putting her foot in an ice cold bath etc.
It's a hell of alot better already and she can walk with a snowboard boot on with no issues, strapped her into a board at the hotel and she can rock from edge to edge aswell without any discomfort, looks like her holiday isnt quite over just yet
going up about midday today as we had a late one last night and the slopes get pretty quiet from half 2 onwards as people start to ...
