I was told that you could also say Chestita Martenitsa, so trying to be clever in boro one year I wished a very amused shopkeeper ' chestita mastika!' Not quite the same - happy Baba Marta everyone - not many storks in Bristol so could be wearing my martenitsa for some time....

It doesn't just apply to storks but also to when you see the first buds (or blossom) on a tree . Those who live in the mountains wear the martenitsas longer than people down on the plains as the spring is much later and there are not many storks lol.

Well I was told to wear mine until the last day of March and then hang it on a tree and make a wish. Tht'a what i'll dore: Happy Baba Marta Everyone
And you Mr M. EMJAY that's what you do with it if you haven't seen any storks or blossom by the end of the month
