Helmet Mini Cameras

Hi all, I read on here recently about c£20 mini cameras to attach to your helmet.

Any advice on where best to get one for this price?

Thanks

Try ebay or Amazon.

re: Helmet Mini Cameras

Hi Ian

I bought a helmet cam from Chilli Technology. The Action cam3 HD is £70 on their website but they often have offers upto half price. I got mine from the Snow Show for just over £40. More than you stated but a cracking piece of kit, comes with head strap, velcro helmet mount and a bike mount. Really pleased with the results.

re: Helmet Mini Cameras

Depends what you want, and how long you want to wait for it.

There are small cameras, called the MD80, that can clip onto helmets, clothes or in my case, mounted to my board. They provide an okay picture but you do really need to put the image through a bit of software processing to stabilize it (and get rid of the time code). Just do a Google shopping search for MD80 and you'll see them for around £12, although if you hunt on ebay you can get them from Hong Hong for pennies, as I did ...

In my Bansko vid here http://youtu.be/FK2dMv-YHDA
I used an MD80 for some shots (see 2.16) ... and you can see it duct-taped to the board at 1.08. (The rest was filmed on a Kodak playsport)

Alternatively, I think Groupon had a cheap helmet cam up recently for around twenty quid. Again do a google shopping search for helmet cam and you'll get some cheap ones. Remember they only record at 640x480 (think camera phones around 5 years ago) so you may be sacrificing picture quality for the convenience of mounting it on your head.

For quality at a budget there are plenty of good alternatives like the 'Flip' camcorder (check ebay) or go a wee bit extra for the playsport, not exactly a GoProHD, but close, and the playsport has the advantage of being completely waterproof.

re: Helmet Mini Cameras

All my vids were filmed on a PlaySport Zx3. I have some more vids to put up but stupidly did not copy off my SD card and it's got corrupted. I have some recovery software but it's only getting back about 50% :-(

That's a lesson in complacency for a technical person....

I have just got my home made mounting kit out the loft to prepare for this year. I did mount it on my helmet but it looks stupid so I am going to try a chest strap this year. I will also find a way of fixing the wide angle lens so it won't get lost if it gets knocked.

I'd love a GoProHD but can't spare the cash right now. I might get a bullet cam though and try it out....

Hi Ian, I have just got the go pro cam, very small, water proof and has lots of different mounts! You might want to take a look at it, cost around £ 165- £200, ( Very good for high speed!
