Helmets - compulsory for kids?

Is it true that children under 12 now have to wear a ski helmet? Taking a group of 30 primary school kids to Pamporovo in January and in previous years helmets were not compulsory but we've just been advised that this has may have changed. Anyone know anything about this? I already recommend that the children do wear them but it's always been up to the parents in the past.

Thanks in advance!

I know this is not entirely relevant, but I bought myself a helmet at the weekend (I am 32, not a primary school child). I got it from trespass and it was £26. Well worth the money considering the damage that could be done.

Our tour operator will let us hire helmets in Pamps for £2.50 per day so £15 for the week but we must order these in advance.

They are not compulsary in Pamporovo, but strongly advisable. As for hiring - I would not go down this route. I would very much doubt if they had 30 helmets that all fitted correctly and at £2.50 per day you can buy one that will pay for itself in under 2 weeks skiing.

Plus you can ensure the correct fitting, up to BS levels and undamaged.

If I were you I would tell each of the 30 parents that YOU have made it compulsary as YOU are responsible for their safety. I think that this also ...

What price on a childs safety?

I would never even consider putting kids on Skis/Boards without a helmet. You only have to look at what happened to Natasha Richardson in March and that was on the flat.

I am taking a ski group from school as well. It is not compulsory to wear helmets but most evidence suggests it is only sensible as long as kids are warned it does not turn them invincible!! Hire is £2.50 a day (payable in advance) or you can buy them for £19.We decided to buy for two main reasons..
1) when we go in Feb the helmets will have been used for six weeks and we can guarantee that the helmets we have are not damaged

Sensible and correct advice above. Same applies here in Borovets with any respectable school.

My Boy boards -- Board = Helmet
My Boy Bmx's -- Bmx = Helmet.

It may not be compulsory by the Law of the Land,
But it is compulsory by the Law of Dad.........

That's my slant on this...........

re: Helmets - compulsory for kids?

It amazes me that people think snow is soft, usually on piste it isnt!!!! Get a helmet, its warm as well!! Doesnt matter how good you are, theres plenty of others around who may not be quite as controlled!!

Anyway, im surprised the insurance doenst make it compulsory Booze Booze
