Help Pamporovo first timers

If in doubt ask the experts.

we have just booked a week in Murgavets hotel on March 8th, first time skiers never mind first tiem in Bulgaria, any help appreciated.

Should we hire equipment boots etc through tour op or when we get there? Murgavets any good? Where do we store ski equipment? Snow baord or ski, I fancy boarding wife wants to ski? Best time to start and miss the queueus? Basically any info from absolute basics would be very much appreciated, you seem like a very ...

Ok if you have booked a package holiday arrange you lessons, lift pass and ski hire through them.
Murgavets excellent hotel slap bang in centre of resort with a connecting tunnel too two other hotels so no need to go outside.

Best time to start well as you are a beginner you are not going to miss the queues, just go with it on you first day as it will take ages to sort out skis then groups lot of hangin around but after that it will ease off.

I agree... murgavets perfect location! Book through your tour op, not only will it be cheaper it will save you time too (go full the full ski or snowboard pack as it includes lift passes, equipment and tuition). If skiing you get 4 hours tuition per day, boarders get 2.

The bus to take you to the ski centre is literally just on the corner of the hotel. You will issued with a welcome pack when you get on the bus at the airport and start heading into resort, this will tell you what time ...

The bus to take you to the ski centre is literally just on the corner of the hotel. You will issued with a welcome pack when you get on the bus at the airport and start heading into resort, this will tell you what time you will be collected from the hotel on the first morning. Its usually an instructor who comes round and heardes people towards the bus stop. The first day is always busier as you get sorted with your equipment that will be yours for the week.

Ski school starts at 10am, so after the first day if you're confident you can get a run in before it starts (lifts usually quieter around 9am) or you can potter around on the nursery slopes whilst waiting for your instructor.

You will have a great time, relax, go with the flow, have a laugh, and i guarantee you will make new friends Very Happy

Enjoy Cool

re: Help Pamporovo first timers

Thanks for that. I was thinking of having some lessons here before we go and then topping that up with some private tuition out there, is that a bad idea?

No not at all... in fact there were some people on the plane with us who did 8 hours at castleford and were almost able to parallel well before they went (to Bansko), they got down blacks apparently and were booked on the "learn to ski" pack.

As the snow was better this year the beginners were getting down blu runs in their first week anyway (having not stepped into a ski ever) so whatever you choose you will just progress from the point you're at... the instructors in pamps are amazing ...

My other half wouldn't ski down from the top at castleford yet he was in the same group as us zipping down reds cos of the great tuition, castlefors will not prove a challene re. steepness anymore for him!

You will have a fab time Booze

I wouldn't go with ski school for skiing or boarding, I have seen the equipment they use, boot still wet inside from the previous person that used them and snowboards that are down to the wood, i.e. no wax on them, get your ski equipment and ski lessons from inter ski and your snowboard equipment and lessons from the Snow Shack next door, both are just below hotel Markony, you can't miss them.

re: Help Pamporovo first timers

I agree that interski and the snowshack are great Pete at interski helped me out loads last year with badly fitting boots and I did a snowboard taster with the guys from the snowshack which was great. I must trust them as I am letting them teach my son to board this year. Nick you do the pamporovo ski school a disservice. They are nowhere near as bad as he says. I have been going to pamps for the last 3yrs and going back on the 16th. If you prebook learn to ski with the ski school it will cost £98 for everthing which is really good value and they will let you go into an intermediate class straight away if you have had some dry slope experience. Private tuition is a great way to kick start your skiing my son has had 1-1 with the ski school for the last 3 years and has done brilliantly he was skiing black runs last year at 6. The rates this year at the ski school are 45 levs for 2hrs and 80 levs for 4hrs. I have no complants with them and will be skiing with my £98 learn to ski pack again this year.

As for hotels Murgavets is central and nice ....others which are central and good are the Perelik, Snezhanka, Orlovetz ( fab 5*) ....the Pamporovo is not central to the resort so bear this in mind if booking alos its the last pick up for the ski bus in the morning which means long queues as the bus is normally almost full by the time it gets there. Sorry for the essay but hope it helps.

re: Help Pamporovo first timers

I would try and get one of the central hotels, the ski bus fills up quick as well and often people at the Pamporovo had to wait for a while, perilks ok but a little dated, the snezhanka was nice, although the beds were hard, best one is the orlovetz, see if you can get any of those first otherwise you may pay for taxis to get into the centre every night, not far but added expense.
