Holiday Review- Borovets

Hi all,
My family and I have recently just returned from a trip to borovets last week and would just like to comment on a few things.
Firstly the weather we had been fantastic we had snow everyday and I don’t think we could have asked for better skiing conditions! Hi all,
My family and I have recently just returned from a trip to borovets last week and would just like to comment on a few things.
Firstly the weather we had been fantastic we had snow everyday and I don’t think we could have asked for better skiing conditions! I mean we were sat outside on Tuesday in the sun eating our dinner while the snow was a little thick for skiing but still was great. The only day that I remember even seeing the roads on the resort was Friday afternoon but after super we went outside and they had vanished again. The only problem being that Wednesday evening there was a downfall of snow and the skiing was a little difficult because it was sticking to our skis, I would suggest to get them waxed in the ski hire if this happens again.
That brings me on to my second point, either me or my family have ever skied before and so we had to hire equipment. One word is be to be patient! On our first morning of skiing we had to go and hire our skis and boots which had to be returned to the depot every night and then you had the same ones back the following morning. We didn’t find that the guys in the hire depot were very hospitable; they just wanted you to put on a pair of skis and go so they can serve the next person. This is where you have to be patient. You have to make sure that your boots fit perfectly, don’t be scared to go up and change them again and again until they are perfect for you, you don’t wan to have to put uncomfortable boots on all week or you won’t enjoy your skiing. Also be clear which shoe size you are, I asked for a size 7 and they gave me a size 5 which I didn’t know until I tried them on and could not get my foot in them. When I realised the mistake I took them up again to change them which I stated I needed a 7, they did not believe me because of my size and gave me boots they thought would fit so be sure before you try them on which size you have to save hassle in the long run.
We stayed in the Yanakiev hotel which had its advantages and disadvantages. The hotel itself was fantastic it was clean, modern and well looked after. The rooms were spacious and had breathtaking views out on o the slopes. The problem being for us was it's location. It was situated up the main hill next to one of the slopes. Walking down in the morning was fine but after a long day on the slopes walking up a big hill wasn't very good. It then stopped us going down to the town in the evenings because we didn’t want to walk all the way up again. Although the hotel has done its best to try and resolve this by giving you the chance to ride their bus down to the town but this came at a price which we were not too pleased about as it would have cost us 30 lev for three of us to ride one way down. One other thing being the food. The choice was great; there was plenty to choose from as long as you kept in mind that they were trying to keep it worldwide. They like there food luke warm and not hot as many of the British do. The evening meal is served from 6-8 and as long as you go early there is plenty to choose from and it’s hot. Although being situated up the hill there isn’t as much noise from the local clubs down in the town.
One tip that we would give would be to ride the horse and carriage to the slopes from the ski depot as it saved a lot of wasted energy walking all the way there with your skis and boots as it was up hill all the way. This only cost 10 levs and for three of us we thought it was worth the money.
And last but not least I would defiantly recommend the Skidoos ride which we booked through Inghams. We booked this in the welcome meeting. We booked for the last time which was 6 o'clock if you seek adrenaline rushes then I highly recommend it. It was pitch black driving through the forest and lasted a good hour, well worth the money.
Really enjoyed our trip, instructor was great-helped anyone on their own if they were struggling and taught to everyone’s abilities! (His name was Cali Smile ) Are defiantly looking into going again *******
Hope this helps Wink

re: Holiday Review- Borovets

There is a short beginner drag lift that goes past it - I think it's the Rotata beginner slope.

Hey Jo,
Yh there is a slope next to the hotel a (green run) with a drag lift. You could ski into the hotel as such as they have a room were you can store your equipment that you can use, the only problem being you can only do this if you have your own gear. As we hired the gear we had to return it every night .
Hope this helps Smile

Hi Fletch thanks for this info, I'll bear it in mind although I'll be asking the hotel very nicely if we can store our gear there as there have been other guests that have done this: wish me luck!!!

Hey,
If you are under 18 your not allowed to ride the skidoo on your own, but if your over 18 then you can drive one yourself. There is a guy in charge that you follow on your skidoo around the forest. The prices are based on wether you have your own skidoo or if you share. If I can remember exactually it was around £40-£45 for a singal rider and £29 if two people shared (£29 for the two of you ). In my opinion it's best to share if you want to save on the cash because the the guy stops half ...

Hope this helps, and enjoy !
P.S If you go in the night like we did in the middle of a small blizzard make sure your face is covered i.e you've got goggles on and a scarf/ hat because your face definatly feels the cold! (They suppley helmets for you)
