Your report Katrin, was fine - balanced and honest. I think the only time people on here jump down the throats of negative posters is when they are unsubstantiated or when they post comments like 'don't go to Bulgaria'.

I too have been on a ski holiday to Pamporovo and not been able to ski but I have also had the flip side and had brilliant snow and had a fantastic holiday. I would book again for Christmas or New Year even though the snow is risky because I would enjoy the atmosphere in resort snow or no snow.

If I wanted snow sure at Christmas/New Year then probably wouldn't go to BG.

People see places differently. I have just returned from 8 nights in boro and snow was not great but we did ski every day - either the Rila slopes or popangelov/igilika slopes. We tried to get up early to get best conditions and avoid long qs, but snow meant that the top was not open and that restricted variety - also meant people could not progress from nursery slopes straight on to reds that got icy later in the day, We have been at this time 6 out of the last 7 years and snow has been poor twice (being last two years) but that is our risk. the counter is that it is a very friendly resort and has now become one of our traditions. The locals do remember you from year to year and although part of this is good sales technique the majority just reflects how nice the people are. We also met Kas and Bobby this year - great couple just don't play drinking games with them - not an early day on the slopes the following morning!

Go early in the season and it is risky for snow, but difficult place to beat at New Year.

Xmas / New Year is pot luck in Bulgaria.....always has been for last 10years that I have been coming here. I think possibly 2years out of the 10 have been fantastic conditions the rest not good. This info is always available on this site from people who have visited and people who live here and know what it is like year after year.

It has always been the case do you go or not around this time and to be honest I think the information is there if you just look into it first. This site has an historical snow cover report which I found very useful when first started to come skiing. The information is honest and then its up to you to decide whether you take the chance. Ofcourse tour operators are going to push resorts here to get money doesn't mean you get the truth. They are sales people

I personally would not reccommend anybody to come skiing early here unless they book last minute knowing that there is snow and skiing available.

Kas and Bobby in Boro and Steve C and me in Bansko are always here for up to date info as we live here. I'm sure andie in Pamps would also give you up to date info too.

But for people who have to book early due to set holiday dates and are looking to come xmas / new year I would not reccommend coming to Bulgaria just for the skiing as it is not guaranteed with good snowfall.
