re: Hotel samocov

Have stayed there once and the hotel was fine. Rooms clean, food on a par with everywhere else, facilities ok. My only comment would be that the hotel seemed a little sleepy and old fashioned.

Mind you the reception area is large and comfortable and they have a bloke making crepes at about 4pm. Very reasonable they are too and flambe with rum I think. The nightclub is open early in the evening and serves ok for a drink before you hit the town and the cocktail bar does a decent happy hour. If you get friendly with the barman (tip) you will notice that your cocktails majically become very large and something like a long island iced tea containes about a pint of spirit. The hotel is ...

The hotel is a bit dated and the food up to normal Borovets hotel standard (average) but I like it and use it a base to meet even if i'm not staying there. I'm not sure if you are using their equipment or school, if so you will find the Sunday morning fitting unbelievably busy. Either get down really early, before 9 or don't bother until after 10 as you will be queuing out of the depot

We stayed at the Samokov in Jan 2010 and would be happy to go there again. The rooms were warm and of a good size. We had half board (breakfast and dinner) and were personally happy with it. There were some people who were not but then you have to look at how much you really are paying for the food off your total package price. We used the Samokov hotel ski school and found it fine.
