Bulgaria Ski discussion board

Ok! i know i can be a bit of a snob when it comes to holidays.In the pass i have tried to ski in Killington USA,my friend lives in switzland with a ski instructor so sking has been 5* all the way, and went to la plagne and had fantastic sking....then booked by force to go to the rila in boro.After following some of the reports on ths forum i can say i was worried.Well i can say that i was impressed.
1st..hotel rila..room spotless..basic but warm, loads of space, very good beds, loads of hot water and never heard any late night noise. and believe me when i say i was in bed early most nights.Good shops in the hotel, most selling copies of bags, glasses etc.Pool very good size,you need to pay a small fee for use of steam room, but well worth it, had a fab massage twice which cost £25 for 50mins( last time i payed about £70 in glen eagles and it was ok)Food average, but then any hotel who offers a buffet is always average(no different than some so called 5* hotels i have stayed in)my food was ok and we did eat in about 3 times. Breakfast was what you need,and the place was clean and well staffed.Bulgarian food is basic but good.I'm sure godon ramsey might do better but we were not paying his prices.If you order drinks in the hotel they are cheap.Dont expect toget any small change back from the bar staff as it works out to small(les than pence).Great position for sking and the kids seem happy to play about with out getting in the way.
Staff and people dont smile alot but this is their way so respect it.as for trouble and security did not see any even though the door men look like the mafia( prob were).Will stay their again.
2nd...boro...could not get over how cheap it was to eat and drink out.We went to a resturant named Kati's and had one of the best steaks i have had for a long time. The choice of wine was good too.Great to eat out at lunch, just great deals, could not believe it.Yes their are some porn bars, but their is all over the world and i dont think they were that busy(too knacked). only windge was touts trying to offer you free drinks etc to get you into their resturants( reminds me of the days of time share).Shops full of cheap ski wear, wished i had bought mine their.Saying that did buy a great jacket.
3rd SKIING...we were lucky we had good snow, but conditions i know have been bad every wher all season( my mate in swiss has hardly skied all season)I was in a class again and the instructor spoke ok english and was very patient.Nice small group and good fun.My partner can ski well and said their were some good runs.(never been on black so i cant help you) but enough for me.
Who would i recomend this ski holiday to:any one who wants to learn or improve skiing, any one who is not sure about skiing and does not want to risk blowing a load of well earned cash.Fab for famlies and kids of all ages.If you are a blackrun mad person who likes a challange then it might be a little tame.
sorry if i have gone on a bit, but i feel i have given a honest unbias opinion about the place. We had a great time infact most of my desperate housewives friends(in our 40's but think were 20') are going to book next year.Any one going oout have a good time and watch the drinking1
