Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself really!
I'm off to borovets with my husband on 24 Feb for a week, it's my first time skiing, my hubby went for 3 days last year so still a beginner too really, any tips for first timers? Do we really need goggles? We've got sunglasses from the ski shop but not sure if we need goggles too?
Staying at Hotel Victoria - anyone know if its any good? It'll only be a base really so as long as the beds are comfy I don't mind!!!
Thank you ...

I stayed in the victoria last year. It's a 5 or 10 min walk up through the trees, but a nice one.
The Hotel is nice a small, very personal, although basic it does all you need for a ski holiday.
One thing to bare in mind is that there is no kettle or coffee making facilities in the room. So if you have a travel kettle take it with, and some tea bags and coffee.
Well you have picked a good week to start as some of us are over there then. With regards to goggles yes you need to get some as they are secure on your head. Sunglasses if you fall either get lost in the snow or break. Not the best if they are expensive.
Catch you at discussion board meet at Bobbys Bar if you need any help.
Thanks for the replies I will definitely get some goggles sorted!
O.M.G thanks for the tip about the kettle, was planning on taking my own coffee anyway as we've been to the sunny part of bulgaria before and the coffee was lousy!!! Hadn't thought about the kettle tho!
Snow plough is there some kind of meet up planned and is anyone allowed to join in? Would be nice to meet some experienced people lol!

We are flying from Manchester and due to arrive in Sofia at 6.30pm so not quite sure what time we'll arrive in the resort - was planning on heading up to Bobbys bar for a drink when we have dropped everything in the hotel as it seems to be the popular choice
The meet is open to all in the know, this is an event which has been going on for years. Always held on a Sunday evening at a nominated venue in Borovets. If you don't make it to the meet just introduce yourselves to Kas (board moderator, maytriach and bar owner-ish) during the week. Ask for S.P. dbut, BOON. or any discussion board user. If you use this board your in What time flight out of Manchester ??
Hi Twinklepie, I'm out 24th, have stayed next to victoria before and it is a nice walk, but used to be dark and a torch was handy as not gritted or lit too well sometimes. Also not the easiest walk to gondola/lifts with equipment so is good to either hire, or keep your equipment at bottom of slopes by paying a small fee for storage. Will see you at the forum meet on the Sunday hopefully.
Thanks for the tip Kelvin will take torches just in case! We've booked with balkan holidays and from what I've read I think they use borosports and we can hand the boots/skis back at the end of the day so wont have to walk back to the hotel in ski boots!
