Jacksprat, here's some info:

I stayed at The Finlandia from 18-25 January (when there was no skiiing for 2 days). What I didn't know until too late was that you can walk from the hotel to the Studenets mid-station in just 15 minutes.

I walked there on the afternoon of the 2nd no-ski day, and people were sledging and bumboarding down the bottom part of the Wall. If only I'd known that sooner... You can get sledges/bumboards from the hotel.

You walk from the hotel up through the trees to the main road, turn left and walk up the main road for a few hundred yards (there's a pavement!), then turn right, carry on past a large hotel/restaurant, (The Castle I think) up another track through the trees, and you're there!

And you can also do that if you miss the last courtesy bus in the morning...!

re: Is there ANY snow in Pamps!

Just got back, having left a melting iced up resort, I hope it snows soon. They are having the hottest Feb for about 20 years, so its not loooking good.
