Borovets winter resort in Rila Mountain will open the new winter season on December 21 2008 with a new ski lift facility, Focus news agency reported, quoting the Bulgarian Ski Federation (BSF), on December 16.

The investment in the facility by ski slopes concessionaires Borosport was seven million leva, Focus said. The 1km four-seated Poma lift to the Markoudjik 2 piste will replace some of the old facilities in the Markoudjik ski area. The lift will be able to service 2400 people an hour.

Next to that, Borosport has finished the installation of system for artificial snow that will extend the use of ski runs. Thirty new mobile snow cannons, bought for 20 million leva, will work for skiers this season.

The daily ski pass for all ski facilities this season will be 35 leva at weekends and 55 leva during the workdays. The daily pass for the Yastrebets Express lift servicing the Yastrebets ski runs will be 26 leva during the workdays.

If it's cold enough canons can make snow regardless of what white stuff falls from the sky, pretty much the same as Snow domes/ Chill factor indoor places in UK. Very Happy

the limits due to the fact that the resevoirs not finished so the water supply is more costly, so will be limited. But then the amoutn of visitors is going to be down a lot so more clear slopes for all!! Booze

Going back to the lift bit - does that mean no more drag lifts at the very top of the gondola? Hallelujah! It gave my son nightmares.
